There's a huge internet thread going to government agencies, a back and forth between this writer and the media and the Medford City and Ward Committee.
It is fascinating stuff, too lengthy to print here, but the conversation is happening and the issues are getting discussed.
Here is my 11:30 AM response:
Thank you, Mr. Gilman, that's precisely my point.
As I noted to Ms. Rosen, I am one of many public access TV hosts, a forum which the federal court has determined are legitimate news sources.
Blogging is considered news, whether the "Fourth Estate" wants to view it as such or not. It is up to the reader to figure out if they like the information being disseminated or not. It is up to the reader to
figure out if the Medford Transcript or Patch or Blogspot or the Globe is factual or, even if "factual" - is slanted.
Spin control
I thank you for the clarification, William G. as I was going to make that point on Tuesday night at the City Council, and will do so.
Mark Rumley, City Solicitor, made an incredible statement in front of Judge Marie O. Jackson-Thompson on 11/15/08
“The one sentiment that I have heard that I take great exception to is that the city is trying to limit speech,” said Rumley. “The notion the city would censor or squelch free speech is baseless and as city solicitor I would find any such effort repugnant.”
Other than Mr. Rumley showing displeasure at the Clerk's office in front of
me and Johnny Byers when the Solicitor heard the allegation that the Clerk's
office wanted "no petitions" from Joe Viglione (thank you, Mark), and now
that the Clerk's office had a meeting with me and changed its tune, I have not
received the help a citizen deserves from the City Solicitor's office in regards
to my First Amendment rights. Mark Rumley is a nice guy, but his rhetoric
is ringing oh so hollow 32 days or so out from an election when I brought the
TV issue to his attention and to Diane McLeod's attention early 2003.
Over 10 years have elapsed and despite Mr. Rumley's hard work -
the Rumley Report, Judge Jackson, the audit, his boss, Mike McGlynn,
would rather meet with Gary Zappelli and Frank PIlleri behind the
backs of the citizens. Mr. Zappelli is being arraigned on Tuesday,
October 8th at 9 AM in Somerville District Court on something only
the Patch broke: the arrest on September 4th of Gary Zappelli
The court said that the Probation File has his spelling as Zapelli,
one P. Why is that? Why have no reporters jumped on this story
the way that Stanley Komins' arraignment was covered by the
media?
Because McGlynn - the 26 year incumbent Mayor - allegedly had pizza
with Zapelli and Pilleri over TV3.
Now TV3 - according to its former Vice President Carl Galusi after
an alleged phone call he had with Pilleri last week - says that Pilleri
says they are distancing themselves from Zapelli, who is clearly
Pilleri's second-in-command. These are important questions
that McGlynn needs to answer on candidate's night; why did he
spend $15,000 on an audit and a Judge's recommendations and
not do as he promised: give a report to the public; instead he met with an individual who terrorized his office, terrorized me, terrorized women, a senior citizen and an autistic man, and is now going to be arraigned in Somerville District Court for a false bomb threat.
McGlynn knew what that individual was all about, yet he decided
to have pizza allegedly with Zapp/Zapelli/Zappelli and Pilleri instead
of being honest with the residents
And Carolyn Rosen, a victim of TV3 herself, clearly covers for
the Mayor. Shameful. This victim is fighting for ALL voters
rights.
Carolyn, I am a legitimate access TV host, considered to be
a legitimate journalist. Having a "union representative" is not
fair to the residents when I have performed so much good work
on behalf of our community.
Last year the Medford Housing story broke in October and
the Medford Transcript refused to jump on it, just as it refused
to properly cover McGlynn's MVDC's 4 million dollar loss in
court.
That's news that the voters were denied. I would like the
opportunity to ask Michael J. McGlynn about the 4 million
dollar judgment about the organization he is the head of,
and who - if anyone - in his family profited handsomely
from River's Edge, and why his uncle was on the MHA and
why TV3 is allowed to harass, defame and bully our community.
These pertinent questions are DENIED the voters because
the incumbent is not honest about his deals and his alliances
and so many other things - the Taxi, the proposed garage - that
need to be discussed, not fed, to the public.
If you have one ounce of integrity in you, Carolyn Rosen,
you will allow a conversation. You are now on the spot.
Deny the residents their right to hear a discussion of the
issues, have Nick Iovino - a cub reporter with no sense
of how things are done in Medford - to put up a charade
that this "Candidates Night" is legitimate, or do the right
thing for your community.
Otherwise your Greenline lawsuit and all your issues
come from a woman who can't stand up for her neighbors
and friends and is willing to sell her soul to an incumbent
Mayor who does NOT have her best interests at heart.
I get it, we can't discuss why the Chairman of the School
Committee has two daughters teaching in 2nd and 3rd grade
at a school named for his father. We all get it, Carolyn,
we all get it.
Mayor Michael J. McGlynn today confirmed he had met with TV3 Board of Directors President Frank Pilleri on Aug. 14 at Bocelli’s in South Medford and again on Aug. 18 at Pizzeria Regina at Station Landing.
“After looking at the report, we have had discussions with Channel 3,” the mayor said.
McGlynn declined to further comment on the situation.
