MEDFORD

EDITOR'S NOTE:

LOOK AT THE STACK OF ISSUES

BREANNA LUNGO-KOEHN

TACKLES!

My name is Breanna Lungo-Koehn and I would like to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Medford City Council.

I have been a city councilor for almost 14 years and am currently a candidate for my eighth term.

I would like to start by giving you a little background about myself. I was born and raised in Medford. I grew up on South Street in Medford having been raised by my parents, Edward and Susan Lungo. I am proud to have a hardworking sister, Arianna, who teaches at the Roberts Elementary School in Medford. My sister and I attended St. Joseph’s School and I graduated from Medford High School in 1998.

EDUCATION
I received my undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology from Endicott College in 2002. I then went on to law school at Massachusetts School of Law and received my Judicial Doctorate Degree in 2006.

BUSINESS OWNER
I opened a law practice in Wellington Circle six years ago with my longtime friend, Cathleen Collins, called the Law Offices of Lungo-Koehn & Collins, LLP. Cathleen and I have worked hard to establish a reputable, trusting law practice that has helped hundreds of people with their legal needs.

We are proud to both have been selected Top Women Attorneys in Massachusetts Rising Stars by Boston Magazine in 2015. In 2011, Cathleen and I opened a second business, LKC Realty, LLC., which we have been working to establish and grow.

 FAMILY
I have been married to my husband, David Koehn, for almost eight years. Dave and I are extremely lucky to have three children, two girls, Bayley who is almost 7 and will be entering second grade in September at the Roberts Elementary School, Kaliway who is 4.5 and will be entering Kindergarten at St. Joseph’s School in September and Kody who just turned 1 and attends Kelly’s Unique Kids in Medford.
__________________________________________________
I hope that my three children and all of Medford’s children grow up being afforded all the opportunities and offered all the programming that I was offered. No matter how tough times get, we should strive to add to our schools, the arts, our library and extracurriculars, not take things away.

LIBRARY FUNDING
I have happily supported the additional funding for our library, new science labs, renovation to the Medford High School pool, and new technology for our schools. The projects came at an expense to the city, but after careful review of the city’s finances and bond indebtedness, I believed and still believe the projects needed to be approved.
HELPING THE YOUTH
When I first ran for the Medford City Council, I stated that “one of the seven should be close to the youth” and now more than ever that statement is true. Although I am far from 21 now, I still feel close to the youth and am passionate about continuing to make positive changes to improve the lives of our youth population.
The past several years have been tough. Although the economy is improving, it has not been thriving as we would like it to and our local aid has been slashed dramatically. We have been left worrying about the city and school budget.

CITY COUNCIL IMPORTANCE
I feel my role on the council is important, within my 14 years; I have fought to maintain programs and start new ones. I’ve helped establish a varsity girl’s hockey team; I worked on establishing an affordable summer camp at the Columbus Elementary School (Medford Summer Camp). I have fought year after year to save important programming such as the Medford Park league Program and make way for kids.
NEEDS OF MEDFORD CHILDREN
I am committed to our children needs because it is so important to grow up learning in a classroom with low class size, to be taught by great teachers, to have the opportunity to read books at our libraries, to be able to act in the school play, to be able to play the sport of your choice, to attend afterschool programs, camps and parks programs.
FIGHTING FOR NON-VOTERS
AS WELL AS VOTERS
Although those under 18 do not have the privilege to vote, if re-elected I will continue to fight for our children, and their well being.
PUBLIC SAFETY FIRST
If re-elected, I will also continue to be a strong voice for public safety. Within the last few years, I was a leader in speaking out about the deplorable conditions at the Department of Public works facility, the police station and the fire stations.

I was the chair of the Public Safety Committee and led the council through the police and DPW facilities to investigate and push for a change. Since that time, the city has invested a great deal into improvements to both the police and fire stations.

After those meetings, the DPW facility was condemned and a new facility has been built. All of that hard work by the council and administration has made it safer and healthier for our public safety personnel and the residents who frequent those buildings.

Our dedicated men and women deserve it.
NEW POLICE STATION

If re-elected I will continue to fight for the still needed improvements and renovations within the Medford police station.

With my 14 years’ experience on the Medford City Council, my years of studying and my time as an attorney, I believe Medford voters can entrust that I am able to do an effective and efficient job as their Medford city councilor.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
I will continue to work hard to make a difference within the city of Medford. I will continue to do my homework so that each and every vote I make is the right vote; the vote that I believe will benefit the city and our citizens.
I will continue to be as responsive as possible, to e-mails, phone calls, complaints and concerns of our residents. I will continue to work with the city to solve problems and work to prevent new ones.
I want to keep fighting to stop unnecessary spending to help the hardworking tax payer who is trying to get by. I will continue working to earn the respect of those who trust in me.
THANK YOU
I want to take this opportunity to thank all that have supported me thus far, whether it was with a vote, donation, yard sign, etc.. I ask for your support again.
I will conclude by promising you that I am committed to the city of Medford.
