Sacco said Medford Police Lt. Joseph Casey would lead the department’s internal investigation of the incident.
Casey, who was promoted to lieutenant April 12, heads the department’s internal affairs unit, which oversees cases involving professional standards, Sacco said.

Michael confirmed Casey had contacted him to schedule a meeting for Tuesday.

“That’s the hope,” Michael said Tuesday morning before deciding to cancel. “I’m going to talk to a lawyer and get some advice to see if I should be going.”

As of the Transcript’s Tuesday print deadline, Michael had not filed a formal complaint with police. But Sacco said the department would investigate the incident anyway.
