Suffolk Downs rips state gaming panel

CEO: Process ‘strains credulity’

Chris Cassidy Friday, December 25, 2015

A top official from Suffolk Downs said the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s decision to award a casino license to rival Wynn Resorts is “gravely flawed” now that the board has been accused of Open Meeting Law violations.

Attorney General Maura Healey ruled this week the gambling panel has been discussing public business behind closed doors in violation of the law.

“The attorney general’s findings confirm some of our worst fears — that a process that was heralded as transparent and intended to inspire public confidence was, in fact, gravely flawed,” said Suffolk Downs CEO Chip Tuttle.

“It strains credulity that the MGC’s repeated violation of Open Meeting Law with quorums present and the chair’s participation after his supposed recusal was an accident and it
is just the latest example that laws were broken and standards subverted in the process that led to the award of the Region A
license.”
