Oeditorial*
*inside WBCN joke -after all, Mark did run the comedy channel

This is about reflecting on the passing of a legend, and his flaws, and his talent, and how he got tangled up with the most objectionable farce of a public access TV station in the history of mankind.   Rest in peace, Mahky Mark.

"I don't think he's going to get mixed up in some stupid scandal"
Senator Keely (Gene Hackman) on Armand (Robin Williams)
THE BIRDCAGE

Well, Mark Parenteau did get involved in something tawdry.  A scandal of all scandals, eighteen counts, and a judge that was furious and didn't let him off easy as he was most likely promised in a "deal."

Lo, how the mighty have fallen.  And wouldn't you know, it is the most homosexual line in the entire Holy Bible!

27"How have the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished!"

Study Bible
David's Song for Saul and Jonathan
26"I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was more wonderful Than the love of women. 27"How have the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished!"
2 Samuel 1:27
I sent that line to the late host of WBZ, David Brudnoy, who was fascinated with it.

It had appeared in the Boston Globe when the Israeli parliament was fighting over gays in the military. The daughter of Moshe Dayan quoted scripture, and there was anarchy, an elder yelling "Not in this house...not in this house."  Go figure.

So I emailed Mr. Brudnoy a few more quotes in an essay I was writing on it, inspired by the Israeli parliament quote, not realizing an entire book had been written on the subject.

David And Jonathan
Why did God focus on
their intimate partnership?

David and Jonathan - a true love story.

Did God bless David and Jonathan, a same sex couple in romantic, committed, sexual partnership? What does God intend us to learn from that dramatic emphasis?

http://www.gaychristian101.com/David-and-Jonathan.html

Twilight Zone writer Charles Beaumont's classic "The Crooked Man"  a good case in point. The crooked man being a heterosexual in a homosexual world due to population restrictions - is closer to becoming a reality than many people think.   And when Beaumont was rejected by the company he worked for in regards to this particular story (if memory serves it was Vogue or a major maggy like that) Hugh Hefner swooped in and published it in Playboy...and catching lots of flak for doing so.

Jesse sipped at the whiskey, remembering the Hunts. How the frenzied mobs had gone through the city at first, chanting, yelling, bearing placards with slogans: WIPE OUT THE HETEROS! KILL THE QUEERS! MAKE OUR CITY CLEAN AGAIN! And how they’d lost interest finally after the passion had worn down and the novelty had ended. But they had killed many and they had sent many more to the hospitals . .

If this portion of "Obituaries of the Stars" is sidelining Mark Parenteau, he's probably breathing a sigh of relief.  So let's get back to the Holy Scripture and give "Mahk" a break for a moment or two.

2 Samuel 1:27
Ugly Malfeasance at TV3 Medford with Bigot Steve.

TV3 Bigot "Big" Steve  - who would brag that he was a "born again" and was allowed to sin - was a disgrace to public access, to Christianity and to humanity. (Yes, people, you read that correctly, the jerk with bad hygiene is quoted as saying:  "I can sin because I'm saved" or something equally ridiculous in that paraphrase.)

When I put the question of David and Jonathan in the Bible having a romance spread out across many, many pages (...as stated above "The Bible devotes more chapters to their love story than any other human love story in the Bible") well, Bigot Steve, station manager of TV3, pontificated with his answer. "That was brotherly love."

Oh yeah, do you LOVE your brother "passing the love of women?"   Puh...leeze....it's one thing to be a hypocrite, another to be an imbecile. Bigot Steve has the distinction, like all of his colleagues at TV3, of being both.

Bigot Steve, allegedly later caught using the resources of the Medford Housing Authority for a mail drop because he was in hiding,  was one of the reasons the station had to shut down.  Bigot Steve's lies, his throwing a member out with no authority to do so, just pure gay discrimination, a small part of the devious, underhanded abuse of the access TV station.  We won't even begin with the horrifying way Bigot Steve, the self-professed Christian, abused a senior citizen, the late Pasqual J. Fiorello.    Bigot Steve was station manager...or board member...or a vote for the president-via-fraud-board-installation who needed warm bodies to vote his way. Too bad the statute of limitations is probably up on that obese clown, like Paul Gerety he got out of Dodge, as did Susan Crowley and Brian Mahoney, did they ever see the writing on the wall.

"Big Steve," much like Adam Knight and Fred Dello Russo, Jr., offered little to our community. These hacks take advantage of the public and justify it in their sick, twisted minds.  But as stated on this news site yesterday, Dello Russo's unethical business practices and abuse of residents looking to speak at the podium can be viewed as a look inside how Dello Russo must conduct business at the funeral parlor.   If Dello Russo can be so abusive of civil rights with people who are of sound mind and ready to discuss city business, just imagine someone grieving and out of their mind with despair, think how ripe they are for a despicable creature like Frederick N. Dello Russo, Jr. to swoop in like a vulture and grab as much cash out of them as humanly possible.  Gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins.

TV3's bogus "station manager" Big Steve would unprofessionally brag about his alleged "Christianity"  to volunteers who paid to volunteer while that obese slob used our monies for his pizza and chocolate frosted coffee rolls and Chinese food (not kidding you on THAT either) until his body pretty much exploded with his over indulgence, sloth and gluttony.   Purportedly the TV3 insurance paid for his stomach stapling and hospital stay.  It is rumored that he nearly died during that period.

Big Steve was the epitome of the hypocrite - so unprofessional, the hack engaging in Lust, Pride, Envy, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Lust. Sloth and Greed.   Oh, and Lust.

And we volunteers had to deal with the rat bastard's "wrath" along with his gluttony (did that office ever reek ...yecch ...pizza boxes piled high...it was just disgusting) and envy...and pride...Big Steve was Seven for Seven with those deadly sins, and not in a good way, not in a way that helped his fellow man. The Fraud.   When it comes to the Seven Deadly Sins there is an asterisk for Big Steve to "Collect them all!!!"

A QUOTE FROM HELL:

"I've got my own opinion of Big Steve's Christianity" a co-worker (not Von Rommel, another named Marc, not Parenteau) said to this writer.   And that was before Bigot Steve threw away the dude's three computers which this writer saved from the sidewalk AND DELIVERED to Marc; just like I returned Joe Fortunato's photograph of Larry Bird that Big Steve threw out.  Heck, it wasn't HIS belongings, just like the money paying him weekly was an obligation for Big Steve that he ignored.  It was cable TV subscriber monies, and Big Steve was forever throwing piles of stuff out without asking people who were the  owners of those particular materials.

The seven deadly sins!  Big Steve smirking at the breasts of women he would use the TV3 van to tape at the "Christian Rock Festivals."   Volunteers never got to use the van - this host wanted to borrow it for Christian rocker Mark Farner but, no siree, Brian Mahoney and Big Steve and the board of directors got to use the equipment, members be damned!

They ran the truck paid for by cable TV subscribers right into the ground with one Medford resident telling me that a board member's basement allegedly "looked like NASA" when the shell of a van went to the dilapidated DPW yard.

Medford residents were DENIED the use of the TV3 van, but reportedly, the late Mark Parenteau was able to use the van in some purported parody of the WBCN program director's      alleged scam of selling CDs known as "cleans" to local music stores.

You see, vinyl and compact disc's would have a "not for sale" imprint on them if they went to radio or the press.  "Cleans" are music that would not have such an imprint and were far more valuable. The unethical program director had a dude named "Roy," reportedly, deliver the discs to the local stores at a discounted price (it didn't cost the perpetrators of this fiasco a damn nickel) using a little white van as the distribution vehicle.

When the T.J. Martell Foundation  had a comedy "roast" for the despicable program director a film rolled of a van backing up to WBCN and delivering CDs while another van in the back had the CDs loaded onto a truck for delivery to the stores. Reportedly, people present at the TJ Martell roast (at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City) howled at the "parody" of the alleged practice, which was investigated by both U.S.A. Today and The Wall Street Journal (both news organizations interviewed this writer at length about it; reportedly - one of them had the proof but the national story was shot down by the powers that be.  Advertising does have its influence, n'est ce pas?  Sound familiar, Medford?

Payola in radio or a powerful politician's daughter screwing the Varsity Coach,  positions of authority appear to have their perks!

Somewhere, Parenteau, must be laughing with the posting of this story again.   "Mahk" Parenteau  had called me his "hero" for helping expose the program director, phoning me after he was interviewed by the press on the situation and saying to me: "THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN" (the press finally nailing the program director for his unethical dirty deeds.)

Mahk received, as a gift, a copy of this book neatly packaged ...wouldn't you have just loved to have seen their faces when he opened this gem up for his colleagues - a little Christmas gift-in-advance, if you will from a local artist.

OEDIPUS REX (WRECKS) THE RADIO
Well, the story got squashed, the fun never happened, however it was the voluminous complaints, the charge led by yours truly as well as a publisher from a weekly newspaper, that led to CBS radio finally canning the old con artist.  (You see, Monsieurs DeLucia and Alberg, prior experience in bringing down con men was most helpful in TV3 losing its contract with the city!  Monsieurs or Monsters, YOU be the judge!)

The end of the 20 or so years of selling vinyl, compact discs to the stores (one local artist quoted as saying "He did a better job than my own (national) distributor" in getting the vinyl to the stores in a timely fashion)

But in Medford, how the hell did the tv3 van get used for a corporate purpose when residents paying for the van never got to use it?

And why did the mayor and the city solicitor drop the ball on such a flagrant abuse of city property?  That's right, the city co-owned the TV3 van and did nothing to protect its own property from abuse by the abusive, nasty, vicious TV station that used our monies and resources like it's own private, personal whore.

It's about 1:46 am on Sunday morning, June 5th.  The internet is abuzz about the death of Mark Parenteau, and lots of it is nice, and lots of it is not nice.   He is remembered as a radio icon with a distinctive radio voice,  wit, impeccable timing, and more demons than many.

The internet posts on Parenteau seem to bear out William Shakespeare's famous line.

In New York City visiting Parenteau's ex-wife, a publicist that I had worked for,  was an extremely busy day.  Mark invited me to meet him for dinner after hours as I had an important luncheon with a major record producer.   Parenteau asked me who I had lunched with - a man who made records with probably the most famous rock star on the planet - NOT the Rolling Stones, I know their producers, more famous!  (Figure it out.)  Mark was thoroughly impressed.    He wanted to give me a tour of the first major internet radio station, eYada.com, but we had to go to his space-age bachelor pad first.    At his apartment I'm thinking "Oh my God, Mark, put that stuff away" walking by some objectionable thing on the bureau.  Just something that Gore Vidal in his masterpiece, Myra Breckinridge, said could be used as the base for a lamp shade. Oh never mind.   But that was Mark being Mahk, thinking nothing of decorations more suited for the combat zone adorning his living space.

Eyada.com was impressive, a bank of computers in a closet (sound familiar, Medford?) while an exile or two from WRKO radio in Boston went to New York to seek radio fame with this new cutting edge technology, along with other notables. It was a great idea at the time, the world just wasn't ready.

Then Mahk Parenteau moved to Washington D.C. to become program director of the comedy channel for a satellite station. The website said "Hey Moms, Hey Dads, Hey Kids, it's ME, Mark Parenteau."   Well, after "the incident" that came down right quick. And so did Mahk's career.

ON a night in November, 2009 (11/27/09) Mahk ended up on the last rung of the radio ladder, a Friday night filth fest on TV3 Medford...not the way you want to be remembered.

Lo, how the mighty have - indeed - fallen.   With a thud.

From #1 in the ratings in Boston to some brutally vulgar show that tried to explain to the citizens of Medford that giving drugs and alcohol to a fourteen year old was just a "frame" job.    Right.

File under: lead by example

Mahk had many demons, and this article is a balanced opinion piece and little memoir noting he was supremely gifted as a radio host, yet had as many flaws as he had gifts.

According to his ex-wife he had squandered his good fortune, the enormous sums of money he made never invested wisely, and then the fall from grace, landing on TV3 Medford's most vile and disgusting program, an exclamation point to the disastrous end to a brilliant career.

Rest in Peace Mahk.   At least you never took advantage of a powerful Medford politician's daughter when you were supposed to be coaching varsity.

You have that in your favor.
