We discussed a radio station at the new Medford access TV facility - and today I just learned that my radio show, Joe Vig Pop Explosion is the 2017 BRF Best Music Show .
As you know, I was a radio consultant for 93.7 FM WCGY (it's in some book the Boston Globe publishes every year - their annual wrap-up,) as well as an advertising exec and producer of the #1 Arbitron show on Sunday nights, Boston Music Showcase 1991-1993 (the wife of the host worked at the station and informed me that we had hit #1 for Sunday nights at some point) -
I began on college radio in 1978, a year before I started out in access TV. Yes, Medford has one of the most veteran public access producers in the nation dating back 38 years at the dawn of access. A colleague of mine was involved in access as an Executive Director in 1974 and his cablecast of the late John Lee Hooker is now out internationally. They hired me to write the liner notes - so you could say that my involvement with that artifact (the only known full concert of Hooker to exist) gives this producer/host even more knowledge of the early days of access tv.
I understand that if a person didn't vote for Mayor Stephanie Muccini-Burke, they are cast out of paradise. Given your story in the Medford Transcript about a mayor for all the people, to deny an award-winning host and veteran the opportunity to help Medford is...well...not very mayoral. I know I don't get as many vacations as some people in your office, that should actually be a plus! Some people like to play, people like me, we just work 24/7.
Somerville TV is awarding me the best Boston Free Radio Music Show award for 2016 on the 19th.
