Oct 23, 2015 - One of the most basic themes in ethics is fairness, stated this way by Artistotle: "Equals should be treated equally and unequals unequally." Favoritism, cronyism, and nepotism all interfere with fairness because they give undue advantage to someone who does not necessarily merit this treatment.

As defined here, undue favoritism based on legally prohibited criteria violates this policy when one person with a degree of authority over others favors a person or group because of some factor related to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age or disability.
