A Virginia Beach city worker walked into a municipal building on Friday afternoon and opened fire on co-workers, killing at least 11 people and injuring six others, the authorities said.
Chief James Cervera said the gunman, who was a current, longtime city employee, was dead after officers opened fire. Officials said the gunman fired on his victims immediately.
“This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach,” Mayor Robert M. Dyer said at an evening news conference.

The identities of the gunman and the victims were not released.

CITY HALL DOORS, ALDEN CHAMBERS BENCHES
WHERE ARE CITY RESOURCES GOING?

Has anyone noticed new doors on Medford City Hall at 85 George P. Hassett Drive?
Over a year ago I brought this matter to the attention of city hall at a meeting in Alden Chambers.
I also taped the meeting on Facebook Live.

Now that there are new doors, where oh where are the vintage doors that served Medford citizens for decades?   That is the  Sixty-Four Thousand Dollar ($64,000.00) question, isn't it?

After a public records request garnered a snippy response from city hall -  " Property Owned by Medford residents is private property, therefore Medford City Hall would not have records on what private residents remove" an appeal to the office of the Secretary of State got the Medford city law office a stern demand to hand over the documents, in a timely manner. 

Well, we got those documents that city hall engaged in subterfuge to try to keep from us.

On April 30, 2019 city hall noted  in a letter that the doors are "being repaired" in a section titled
RESPONSE TO REQUEST #4: See the attached Contract No. 17-0017 and its accompanying documents.  Please note that Contract No. 17-0017 is titled "Medford City Hall, Council Chambers Interior Repairs Project."   Under the same contract, repairs to the Medford City Hall doors are included. Simply put, the doors are being repaired, they were not melted or sold.  Therefore, there are no documents that relate to the melting or sale of the doors."

Shouldn't citizens know why there are new doors and, if the vintage doors are being repaired, what will happen to them, and how can the citizens find out where all city property is stored?

The law office declaring " Medford City Hall would not have records on what private residents remove" is both ridiculous and insulting.

With that same records request this writer asked for documents regarding curbstones from Ring Road as well as documents on the missing benches from Alden Chambers dating as far back as 2001.

On February 6, 2001 Robert A. Maiocco, on the council, requested the whereabouts of the benches from Alden Chambers ...noting their value.  On that council was Stephanie Muccini-Burke, the current mayor, as vice president.   Two days later Mayor Michael J. McGlynn offered a bizarre paragraph deflecting the issue, not responding to the resolution.  McGlynn gave an excuse as to why he felt cheap uncomfortable seats would better serve the citizenry than the expensive safer seating.  McGlynn gave no mention of how these seats would serve the citizens better elsewhere, and eighteen years later, with Muccini-Burke as mayor, we still have no answers.

Do you see a pattern here over the better part of two decades?

The Medford Transcript noted discrepancies in the public access monies (to the tune of around $38,000.00) that City Solicitor Mark E. Rumley promised to investigate. When TV3 failed to respond within the ten days Rumley gave them an additional ten days, then stopped investigating the very board that he was once a part of.

Why didn't Mayor Burke hire outside counsel that had never participated on that board?  Why did city hall drop the investigation?

One of the major TV stations in Boston donated an expensive soundboard to TV3.  If you read the contract closely, all equipment at the perpetually dissolving Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. was co-owned by the city.  This soundboard was, in my professional opinion, worth at least twenty-five thousand dollars. At least.  When I approached a latter-day board member, the proprietor of Medford Electronics, of all things, he just shrugged his shoulders noting that there's always government waste.

See a pattern, Medford?  Your taxes go up, cable rates go up, the Boston Globe references missing copper at the Medford Housing Authority, the Medford Transcript notes that there are discrepancies in the TV3 accounting, manhole covers allegedly go missing at the DPW, a former mayor in 2001 can't fully explain where vintage, expensive benches walked off to, and you can bet your bottom dollar that if this writer didn't file a public records request regarding the city hall doors, they would be M.I.A. too.

Where do these resources go?  Why are citizens not informed of property they have paid for and where that property allegedly walks off to?  

When the city law office makes a mockery of the request and blames the citizens in a condescending dubious response to a legal request, one wonders where the local press is.  The absence of the local news media is a question not for another day but for right now.

" Medford City Hall would not have records on what private residents remove" - the law office making up some Trumpian fiction and passing it off as a response to a public records request which, of course, it wasn't.

We have limited information from city hall, and we have no benches and no city hall doors that we can see.

This administration just wants us to be sheep and accept that things disappear.  We are supposed to shut up and take it.

Oh, and in South Africa, a mayor is under arrest.  How refreshing.

The Durban Solid Waste (DSW) department was strategically targeted by these individuals to further their political and personal interests by appointing the “contractors [who] were not on the city's database and had no infrastructure, staff or skills in waste management and were essentially given money for work that was not done" according to the evidence presented in court.

One has to ask the question, with so many items unaccounted for, with city hall telling me that they can't find any more documents on the missing benches (and the current mayor was on the council that asked about the benches, and then actually worked for Michael J. McGlynn herself!)  Get real, something is not kosher at Medford City Hall.

The Medford Transcript needs to start reporting and stop acting as the publicity arm of 85 George P. Hassett Drive.  This is a story of GREAT public interest.   This is a story that needs to reach the widest audience possible.

So the missing benches - why are we going back to 2001? Very simple, you can see the pattern of deception by Medford government officials spanning 18 years. Taxpayers, ratepayers, businesses, civic groups, residents need to wake up and see what is going on.

1)In April of 2019 the Law Office, headed by the City Solicitor, failed to give the documents on the city hall doors over in a timely manner.

Where did the benches go, Mr. McGlynn, even your own council didn't know!


2)After the Secretary of State came down on them, they handed SOME documents over. The second appeal got information that "the doors are being repaired." Now I am preparing the third appeal: how much to repair them, where are they, where are they going.
 Property Owned by Medford residents is private property, therefore Medford City Hall would not have records on what private residents remove.

 SO THE CITY SOLICITOR'S OFFICE IS BLAMING CITIZENS FOR THE ALLEGED THEFT OF THE DOORS?  REALLY?

 WITH AN APPEAL WE EXPOSED THE LAW OFFICE ENGAGING IN SUBTERFUGE.

3)Back to February of 2001. Stephanie Muccini-Burke, the current mayor, was the Vice President of the Medford City Council, Feb 6, 2001. Maiocco asks for the benches - a city councilor not knowing where benches have been moved to, and two days later McGlynn says a vague "great majority" of the benches" ...yeah? What does that mean? That some will be repaired in time? McGlynn does NOT answer the council question, not at all. And in 2019, the current mayor who was on that council is clueless and cannot even find the paperwork. So where did the benches go in 2001, even the council didn't know. In 2017 the council AND the school committee didn't know about the Chapter 74 board, which purportedly had oversight regarding the monies that I worked hard to save the city. Where are those monies? Where are the missing TV3 monies as well? The City Solicitor so conveniently dropped the investigation. We are talking about monies now in the hundreds of thousands of dollars combining everything, missing copper, missing manhole covers, missing TV3 monies from MCC TV3, now MCM using the monies I saved the city by the removal of MCC and the public kept out of access because the Solicitor's pals from TV3 are there scaring people away. It's a racket. The $3900.00 given to retired judge Marie O. Jackson Thompson, the Ten Thousand Dollars or so given to Melanson Heath & Co LLC, just burn it, the citizens got nothing out of that $14,000.00 or so with $38,000 or more (bet on more; I have documents!) and the donation from a TV station that they let rot outside of 40 Canal Street, and a board member telling me "Well, there's a lot of waste in government." Paraphrased. Not what we want to hear. Anyone's thoughts on this waste of city monies?

 (Mr. Tomasone was seen in a photo-op with Judge Maurice Flynn holding Ted Williams' bat.)   It was my pleasure to, pro se, have the cases moved to a more fair environment over at Cambridge District Court.*

*Good thing for "ballgame Teddy" that the statute of limitations is up, Detective MacKlownski because THAT, is - indeed - WITNESS INTIMIDATION.  Maybe Raquel-with-the-vulgar-shoes-and-bad-lipstick can look into it?

I thank you for your response. 

And please be advised, I am very happy with your personal efforts.  I feel you are one of the hardest working people at Medford City Hall and that you are honorable.

I appreciate the letter from former Mayor Michael J. McGlynn dated February 8, 2001 re: Resolution 01-083.
That identifies the problem accurately, doesn't it?

Members of the public have asked me about the city hall doors, the Ring Road curbstones, these chairs (those 3 items in the appeal SPR 2019-776, Medford/Viglione) the missing copper at the housing authority, the allegedly missing manhole covers at the DPW, the $38,000.00 missing from Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. as noted in an article in the Medford Transcript that I have in a Public Records Request to the Attorney General's office - which has, after 5 years, finally given me more details but which still needs its own appeal.

What we see is a pattern of very expensive items that belong to the citizens of Medford; items which are obscured by time and alleged subterfuge.

Again, I do not hold you responsible and, actually, I'm quite happy they appointed you as the public records officer.  You and Janice Spencer in your office I hold in the highest regard.

But, McGlynn's letter isolates for this journalist the pattern of deceitful conduct employed by McGlynn and his surrogate, the McGlynn-by-Proxy Stephanie Muccini-Burke.  Rumor is Mrs. Burke allegedly spends more time shopping at Kohl's than doing any reasonable work at 85 George P. Hassett Drive, and those allegations come from multiple sources.   How many times has this journalist been "spot on," to quote former Medford Transcript Editor, formerly my editor, Nell Escobar Coakley.   "They thought you were crazy, Joe, and one by one they came in here saying you were right."   No doubt.

The original response I received from you, strangely, did not have your "writer's voice."  Actually, it seemed very much like the writings of the City Solicitor Mark E. Rumley.  Where you are always polite in tone it was snippy, not very forthright, downright mean.

Please inform Mr. Rumley that if my allegation that he is using your name and law license to correspond with me, or if he is dictating to the public records officer what he wants to say and using a go-between, that I will bring that to the attention of certain agencies in Boston (perhaps State Ethics Commission or Inspector General or any other agency I deem qualified to investigate.)   I am the person who caught (on camera) Mr. Rumley jumping up to "object" to my asking a question at the Medford Housing Authority when I removed Mayor McGlynn's uncle Gene McGillicuddy with a complaint to then-Governor Deval Patrick; Mr. Rumley was thrown off the witness stand in Somerville District Court on or about 9/1/16 for besmirching my name in what the judge (Yee) called "irrelevant" testimony; I have found Mr. Rumley using the taxpayer-funded e mail from his office on a Catholic church website and have heard allegations that Mr. Rumley was moonlighting on the citizens of Medford at Somerville Court on Thursdays as an alleged bill collector for credit card companies, allegedly.  Somerville Court, of course, being the former place of employment of disgraced magistrate, Robert "Ted" Tomasone.   I, of course, had warned the citizens for years about Mr. Tomasone before his spectacular fall from grace, someone slipping a note into a file of one of my cases at the courthouse "Get that nutjob out of here" signed a "Ballgame Teddy" (Mr. Tomasone was seen in a photo-op with Judge Maurice Flynn holding Ted Williams' bat.)   It was my pleasure to, pro se, have the cases moved to a more fair environment over at Cambridge District Court.*

Perry Mason would be shaking his head.   With that being said, let's get to the bottom of the missing items that Medford residents have been, thus far, cheated out of.
