New Medford Police Station to Officially Open December 8 with Small, Socially Distanced Ribbon Cutting Ceremonyby Jackie Piques |
Ceremony, virtual tour of new building will be broadcast at a later date on Medford Community Media.
Community tours may be offered beginning next spring, if COVID-19 case rates and regulations allow.
The Medford Police Department’s brand-new headquarters is officially open for business! With construction complete, the Department has moved all operations to its new building at 100 Main Street – located next to the former building – as of late November. To mark the milestone and celebrate the official grand opening, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, Police Chief Jack Buckley, and local and state officials will hold a small, brief ceremony on Tuesday, December 8th. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide restrictions on gathering sizes and in the interest of public health and safety, the ribbon cutting event will be extremely limited. Medford Community Media will record the ceremony and it will air on Government Access as well as the City’s website and social media feeds, including a recorded tour of the new building.
“This project, and a new building for our police department, has been a long time coming and I am excited to finally cut the ribbon on this wonderful new facility,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “I want to thank former Mayor Burke, the former Medford City Council, and all who have contributed to this project which will be a great building for our first responders and bring great value to our community as a whole.”
“The very presence of a police station in any community makes the community safer. This new station is a symbol of the quality of the policing that serves the City of Medford,” said Chief Buckley. “I thank all who made this possible: Mayor Lungo-Koehn, former Mayor Burke, former Police Chief Sacco, and all City Council members. Most importantly, I want to thank my officers for their diligence, hard work and dedication to duty. With all that is going on in today’s world, their presence serves as a measure of comfort Let this building serve as a symbol of our commitment to the Medford community.”
The brief, socially distanced ceremony will include pre-recorded singing of the National Anthem by Medford resident Vanessa Salvucci (you can see her in-studio performance during the Medford Community Media broadcast!), remarks by Mayor Lungo-Koehn, Chief Buckley, former Mayor Stephanie Burke, and an official ribbon cutting. We hope to make public tours available in Spring 2021 and will keep the community updated as we are able to do so.
Medford city services are available to all residents, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, language ability, economic situation, or immigration status.
