***PRESS RELEASE - WINTHROP ST ***

Late this morning on February 15th, 2021 the Medford Police responded to a residence on Winthrop St in the area of Victory Park for a well-being check. Information received was that this person may have injured himself with a firearm and was suffering from a mental health episode. Medford Officers secured the scene in a safe manner and with the assistance of NEMLEC SWAT negotiators, were able to peacefully resolve the situation without further incident. This person has been transported to a local hospital for a medical and mental health evaluation. Follow up investigation is still ongoing in conjunction with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene and Ballistics.
There is no immediate threat to the community.
