who is Black and a woman 
Kim Janey, president of Boston's City Council, is set to take over as acting mayor of the city when Martin J. Walsh is confirmed as the nation’s next labor secretary. Janey would be Boston's first Black woman as mayor. Only white men have held the city's highest political office since the mayoralty was established in 1822.

Janey, a 55-year-old former education advocate, is in her second term on the City Council and comes from a large and well-known Roxbury family.

“It is surreal,” she said of becoming mayor, during a recent walk around Roxbury. “Particularly when I think of my own background growing up. Just seeing how far our city has come. It’s amazing.”
