Breanna on Baker on Lifting of Covid 19 Requirements; A SOLD OUT FENWAY PARK IS A HUGE PRESCRIPTION FOR DISASTER...WHAT IS THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR THINKING, DONALD?

Hello Neighbors,

This is Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn with a COVID-19 update.

Yesterday, Governor Baker announced that the state is lifting nearly all COVID-19 requirements effective May 29th. On June 15th, the State will lift the State of Emergency that has been in place since March 2020.

Returning to “normal” is encouraging. We are continuing to do all we can to ensure health and safety, especially as we work to help more of our residents get vaccinated.

We will be announcing details about the City’s plan to fully reopen municipal buildings, schools and public spaces once we receive additional specific guidance from the state. As of right now, City Hall remains open to the public with contact tracing and check-in requirements still in place.

Additionally, the Medford School district is continuing with its mask requirements for school activities with one exception. Beginning today, kids will not be required to wear masks when participating in outdoor sports. The district will continue to review the latest guidance from federal and state public health agencies and may make additional modifications in the coming weeks. For more information on Medford Public Schools' public health measures, visit the district’s website at mps02155.org.

As always, we will continue to keep you updated and informed as any of our policies and procedures change. In the meantime, we continue to encourage all residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine. It is safe and it is effective in stopping the spread of COVID-19, and protecting ourselves, our families, and our community.

Thank you!
