Michael Atton, 34, has been charged with assault and battery on a family household member.
The statie is accused of grabbing his wife, and forcing her arms behind her back as if she was going to be handcuffed. Atton then allegedly threw her down onto the floor in front of their children.
The trooper has denied the allegations and “appeared confused” during the arrest, police said. Atton pleaded not guilty at his Wrentham District Court arraignment Monday.
Wrentham Police responded to 40 Ledgeview Way, an apartment complex, at around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a woman who had fallen out of her chair in the pool area.
By the time police arrived, the woman was on the floor of an apartment’s bathroom and an officer noticed multiple bruises on her legs, including a fairly large bruise on her calf. She was apparently intoxicated and had glassy eyes, the officer noted.
The woman then told police that her husband has repeatedly physically abused her, and caused the bruising on her legs.
