Hart is listed on state payroll records as earning an annual pension of $112,248.

State Police assigned to the Cyber Crimes Unit and Attorney General Maura Healey’s Office report launching an investigation in January after receiving the cyber tip.

According to records obtained by the Herald, State Police reported seizing 5,000 files, both images and video, a sampling of which showed suspected child pornography stored on an external hard drive. Some of those images depict a female child suspected of being “3-to-4 years old” being shown in a “lewd and lascivious” manner.

A retired State Police detective captain arrested and arraigned for allegedly possessing child porn was tracked down via a national CyberTipline and was caught with 5,000 images, records show.

That tip forwarded from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the AG’s office also reports, resulted in the arrest of Francis Hart, 60, of Amherst.

He is charged with two counts of possession of child pornography. He pleaded not guilty late last week and was released after posting a $2,500 cash bail. He cannot have contact with any child under the age of 18 and must stay off the internet, the court ruled.

Hart is due back in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Oct. 22 for a pretrial conference.
