Mayor Lungo-Koehn Selects Faye Morrison to Lead New Parking Department
by Jackie PiquesMs. Morrison will join the City of Medford as Parking Director as of October 18th
Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced today that she has selected Faye L. Morrision to head Medford’s new Parking Department. For the last five years, Morrison has served as the Parking Manager for the City of Newton. She will begin her role with the City of Medford as of October 18, 2021 and will work with the City’s implementation team leading up to the launch of Medford’s inaugural Parking Department in January 2022.
Earlier this year Mayor Lungo-Koehn announced that the City will not extend its contract with third-party vendor ParkMedford when it expires in January. Following the launch of an in-house Parking Department, under Morrison’s direction, the City will work to increase staffing and operations in the following months and years as operations expand.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Faye Morrison leading our new Parking Department and I am honored to welcome her to our team,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “Not only does Faye bring a wealth of knowledge and experience about parking-related operations for a mid-sized city, but she also has a focus on constituent relations and outreach that will be essential in starting Medford’s in-house services early in 2022. I know Faye will be an asset to the city and to the community as a whole and we are excited to have her on board!”
"I am excited and honored that Mayor Lungo-Koehn has chosen and entrusted me with the task of creating a modern, citizen friendly and revenue generating parking program in Medford,” Ms. Morrison said. “I look forward to working with the community and the Mayor to bring my first hand municipal experience to the City."
Ms. Morrison joins the City of Medford after serving as Parking Manager for the City of Newton for the past five years. In Newton, Ms. Morrison played a critical role in unifying parking operations from four divisions into one and was responsible for managing meter audits and parking control operations, overseeing Parking Clerks, maintaining pavement markings, and other essential parking operations for the City. Prior to her role in Newton, Ms. Morrison also worked in the Office of the Massachusetts Secretary of State, served as an Administrative Assistant for CISCO Systems, and served six years as member of the Board of Selectmen in the Town of Ayer, Massachusetts.
As part of the contract with ParkMedford, the City will take ownership of all parking-related resources and materials, including parking kiosks, meters, databases and related information when the contract expires.
The city is planning a series of public meetings and opportunities for community input beginning in Fall 2021. For information on the Commission on Parking Policy & Enforcement, and the final report, visit www.medfordma.org/boards/parking-policy.
