Somerville attorney Sean O’Donovan arrested and charged by feds for attempting to bribe Medford police chief with $25,000

A Medford ordinance states that only three dispensaries are allowed in the city. An advisory panel that reviews applications of companies interested in opening a dispensary in Medford is comprised of several people, including the Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley.

Federal agents allege O’Donovan tried to bribe the Medford police chief with $25,000 in an effort to get his client’s application to the top.

Officials said the attorney tried to transfer the money to Buckley through one of Buckley’s unnamed close family members.

Officials said Chief Buckley immediately alerted federal agents about O’Donovan’s alleged bribe.

“As a municipal employee, the chief owed a duty of honest services to the city of Medford and could not legally participate in a particular municipal matter in which, to his knowledge, his immediate family member had a financial interest,” officials stated in a court document.  https://www.masslive.com/police-fire/2022/06/somerville-attorney-sean-odonovan-arrested-and-charged-by-feds-for-attempting-to-bribe-medford-police-chief-with-25000.html
