Galvin, whose office oversees State House lobbyists, ruled that DiMasi’s federal conviction prohibited him from registering as a lobbyist even though federal violations are not included in the statute.

The Galvin ruling was overturned in Suffolk Superior Court on the grounds that the law applies only to state and not federal convictions. Galvin then appealed the Superior Court ruling to the Supreme Judicial Court, where the matter now stands.

The oral arguments for the case are expected to be held in the fall.
