GLX Light Rail Vehicle Testing and Upcoming Night Work
With GLX Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) testing underway between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., 7 days per week, along the Medford Branch, access to the tracks has been limited. GLXC is therefore planning to perform sporadic night work along the entire Medford Branch between East Somerville Station and Medford Tufts Station beginning Friday, July 15, from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. through the end of July.
The purpose of the work is to install sign foundations, remove leftover construction debris, and perform final grading of the track bed in preparation of passenger service currently targeted for late summer 2022. The night work will involve heavy equipment such as vacuum trucks, dump trucks and gradalls which produce elevated noise levels and can be disruptive at times. Work is expected to move at a moderate pace along the alignment which should limit the duration of noise impacts in specific areas.
We apologize any disruption caused by this work and greatly appreciate the patience and support of abutters as we deliver this long-awaited transit service to the area.
