Email Header that says "From the Office of Congresswoman Katherine Clark"

Hi Joe,

There is so much to be thankful for this November.

In January, I will once again take the oath of office as the Representative of the Fifth District of Massachusetts. I am incredibly grateful for your trust and faith in my leadership and for your partnership as we work together to protect our planet and secure opportunity for every American.

In addition to my awesome responsibility representing you, I have been newly elected the Democratic Whip, the second ranking member in House leadership and the second woman to hold this position in our nation’s history.

The values that we share -- fairness, justice, and opportunity for all -- will continue to govern my work in Washington and at the leadership table. The voices of women, workers, and families will guide me every day and the innovation and generosity that defines MA-5 will continue to be my compass.

There are great challenges ahead of us but I am confident that by centering the work of Congress on people and progress we will build a more inclusive and just America for all.

Sincerely,

HONORING OUR VETERANS

Image

This Veteran’s Day, I joined state and municipal leaders in Cambridge to celebrate our local heroes and their families.

But, America’s veterans deserve more than just ‘thank you for your service.’ They deserve action.

This year, I proudly voted to strengthen health care and benefits for veterans facing toxic exposures , protect the reproductive freedoms of our women veterans, and provide resources to veterans suffering from mental health challenges and substance use disorder.

I’ll never stop working to ensure our veterans and military families have the support and services they deserve.

ONE YEAR LATER: THE INFRASTRUCTURE LAW IN ACTION

One year ago, Democrats sent the historic Infrastructure Law to President Biden’s desk to make good on our promise to create a better future for American families. Already, it’s delivering.

It’s creating millions of union jobs, restoring roads and bridges, upgrading public transit, ensuring communities have clean drinking water, and expanding access to reliable internet. Right here in Massachusetts, it’s transforming and modernizing our state through a wide range of projects:
  1. $2.1 billion to repair roads, highways, and bridges
  2. $535 million to improve public transportation options
  3. $187 million to replace lead pipes and provide safe drinking water
  4. $22.9 million to build out a network of electric vehicle charging stations
  5. $94 million to facilitate a transition to clean energy

SUPPORTING OUR EARLY ED WORKFORCE

Image

When the pandemic brought our child care system to the brink of collapse, I knew it was time for Congress to step up for working families and our incredible child care workforce. That’s why I was proud to champion the American Rescue Plan’s historic $40 billion investment in the child care sector.

Thanks to this much-need relief, over 200,000 child care centers were able to keep their doors open to families -- providing care to over 9.5 million children across the nation.

I was proud to join Boston Mayor Michelle Wu as she announced a new program made possible by American Rescue Plan funding that will provide financial assistance to early education students – developing a pipeline of new teachers. This investment will support the financial security of our essential early educators while addressing the early educator workforce shortage that’s preventing parents from accessing care.

This program isn’t just a win for early educators, it’s a win for children, their parents, and our entire economy.

UNITED WAY THANKSGIVING

Image
Everyone deserves to enjoy a homecooked holiday meal on Thanksgiving.

I joined United Way this month to help distribute Thanksgiving groceries to families in MA-5. United Way embodies the best of the holiday season year around, providing support, services, and meals for those most in need. This year, they are on track to serve 20,000 Massachusetts families as part of their Thanksgiving Project!

While Americans continue to recover from the pandemic, please know that I’m working to lower costs for working families and ensure everyone has the basic resources they need, like food and housing. We have a long way to go to tackle hunger, but I’m dedicated to continuing the fight in Congress alongside these wonderful local partners.

THANK YOU, MADAM SPEAKER

This month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her decision to step down from House Leadership.

Speaker Pelosi has guided our nation to become a more perfect union. She has led with purpose, strength, and patriotism, and her dedication to our country and Constitution is unsurpassed. As the first woman Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, she has demonstrated to the world that women could be leaders at the highest levels. She has proven that when women are at the table, the work of Congress is more effective and responsive to the American people.

I am lucky to call Speaker Pelosi a friend and mentor. And, I am profoundly grateful for her unparalleled service to progress and to America.
