Poftak announced his plans in a letter to MBTA employees Tuesday, saying that his decision came with “mixed emotions” and that his last day on the job would be Jan. 3, two days before the next governor takes office.
“Serving as MBTA general manager has been the experience of a lifetime and it has been my honor and privilege to work with all of you,” Poftak wrote. “While we have faced and continue to face challenges, I believe in the strength and resilience of the MBTA.”
Poftak’s resignation does not include any type of severance package, MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said. His salary was $366,250 in 2021, according to the state comptroller’s office.
The move comes two months after the Federal Transit Administration
issued a scathing report about operations, management and safety
failures at the MBTA, and amid public criticism of the agency’s handling
of the Orange Line shutdown. https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/11/01/mbta-gm-steve-poftak-will-step-down-in-january/?g2i_eui=RgubftAtS%2BPZ3icRgqbNnp9LwXH2xBea&g2i_source=newsletter&lctg=B47AA4BF04D535F664F99407F9&active=no
