The Fall River City Council voted Tuesday night to relieve Mayor Jasiel F. Correia II, who is facing federal corruption charges, of his duties.
The council passed a motion that Correia should vacate his office by 5 p.m. Friday. The vote was 8 to 1.

few hours ahead of the city council meeting, Correia stood with about
two dozen supporters, his father among them, the supporters waving to
people driving by and honking — some with a thumbs up, others with a
middle finger.
