Homeland Security Grant will fund multiple pieces of new equipment to assist MFD with emergency extrications from vehicles. The Medford Fire Department recently received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, Fire Chief Frank Giliberti announced this week. The grant, totaling $70,454.55 with an additional 10% match from the City, will be used to purchase equipment to assist the Department with vehicle extrications, such as electric-hydraulic cutters (“Jaws of Life”) and other tools. The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. Medford’s grant will fund the purchase of the following equipment: - 2 Electric-hydraulic Cutter vehicle extrication tools
- 2 Electric-hydraulic battery powered telescopic rescue arms
- 2 110 volt power supply adapters for endless extended run-time batteries
- 2 Electric-hydraulic spreaders
- 4 bank battery chargers
