Public Meeting to Discuss Carr Park Master Plan Scheduled for 9/29 by Jackie Piques

 

Consultant will present three schematic designs following input through community survey, on-site discussions over the last month.

All community members are invited to a public engagement session on Wednesday, September 29^th from 4 to 7pm to discuss the future of Carr Park. The meeting will be held on site at Carr Park and all are welcome to attend and view preliminary design options for the park. If you are unable to attend but are interested in viewing the preliminary designs, they will be posted online following the meeting along with an online survey for feedback. The Office of Planning, Development & Sustainability has hired CBA Landscape Architects to work with the community to create a Vision Plan for Carr Park through funding from the Community Preservation Act. 

The planning process began with public engagement to gather ideas and feedback about what should be included in a redesign of the park. Almost 300 residents submitted feedback through an online survey and four tabling sessions at the park allowed residents to talk to our designers and staff in person about what they wanted for Carr Park. The full results of our online survey can be found here and a summary of all the public input received about Carr Park can be found here.

Based on this input, the consultant team is developing schematic design options that explore different choices and potential ways to organize the available space. There will be opportunities to discuss the designs with the consultants and the City at two in-person events in September: on Saturday, September 25th from 12-4pm at the Mystic River Celebration at the Condon Shell, and at a public engagement session on Wednesday, September 29th from 4-7pm at Carr Park.

The designers will use the feedback received from the community to develop an overall Vision Plan for the park. Carr Park was highlighted in both the 2011 and 2019 Open Space and Recreation plans as needing renovations. The City will use the Vision Plan as a guide and supporting documentation to apply for grants and funding for construction.
