A CIVIL DEBATE BETWEEN MARGARET WEIGEL AND
JOE VIGLIONE ON MEDFORD MASS GROUP

Margaret,

Apologies but I just saw your response  1-F Sept. 7 to my comment #52428 of August 31

It was nice meeting you up at Alden Chambers a month or so ago.  All due respect but I don't "hate" everything McGlynn does, the Mayor and I have been on the same page on some issues, most notably when I spoke to him at the press conference regarding recycling the old tv 3 equipment.  So please don't make a broad statement like that.

I agree with you regarding meter maids.   As with the suggestions the Mayor received on the new station from his 3 person panel, the Mayor also didn't listen to his own parking commission.

My statement regarding Mrs. Burke is simple:  I do have an idea that those endorsing Mrs. Burke - Adam Knight, Paul Camuso and Fred Dello Russo Jr., all voted for the pay-to-park scheme.  As Mrs. Burke was knee-deep in the McGlynn Administration, she presented no objections until the plan was installed. Furthermore, her position is interesting because she only made the statements to re-think pay to park after she tested the waters of public opinion.  Just look at the response on this group.

To see a business in Medford support Mrs. Burke while being one of the most vocal against pay-to-park on this very list speaks volumes.   Mrs. Burke is taking the line of least resistance when a problem of this magnitude needs leadership,
clear thinking and not the dancing around the issue that manifests when a candidate has $1,000.00 a plate dinners in Boston with Mayor McGlynn by her side.

Sorry, Margaret, but the evidence is overwhelming.

Joe, it's well known that you hate anything that has touched McGlynn' s administration, but it is unfair to bring Stephanie into this as the budget director. I have no idea if she was involved or not, and neither do you.

Looking through Bruce's analysis, it seems ludicrous that we had existing parking rules that were never enforced nor were we able to enforce them b/c meter maids were off the table. Ridiculous.

#52428  Looking for citizen input for parking program

Joe Viglione

In response to Mr. Camuso's post on the parking program and the garage issue:

The garage appears to be a moot point; there would almost certainly be a lawsuit. Republic Parking is a for-profit corporation, they would have an issue with a garage (unless they controlled it.) As for the current Pay-to-Park system, suddenly Mrs. Burke is realizing that the residents hate the program, yet Mrs. Burke was Budget Director with a voice that carried great weight with the Mayor while this plan was pushed through without proper notice or citizen involvement. This writer was at the council meetings, videotaped the Committee of the Whole and has some insight on this matter. Mrs. Burke is getting religion during an election, but was part of the problem when this terrible idea was implemented.
