 I noticed the other day how rusty and forlorn this box looks --- just one  more thing not being maintained in our fair city....

I should also mention that some municipalities have a tree ordinance which provides at least some limited protection when demolition or major construction is involved.  Google "Town of Lexington Tree Ordinance" for an example.
