As I thought about throwing my hat into the city council race, several facts came into mind. One being I have seen how irrelevant the city council has become; another is how dissatisfied and angry the citizens of Medford have become with the performance of the city council.
We anticipated positive change after the last Mayoral and City Council election. What we got, with the exception of very few council members, is the same old song. The mayor, her administration and certain members of the council have again let the people down.
They vote on resolution after resolution and their views seem to be from another planet. When concerned citizens come up to the podium to speak they are treated with disrespect and rudeness as some councilors deliberately cause a distraction to interrupt the speaker’s presentation…like ripping pieces of paper, tapping a pencil, or just getting up from their seat and walking out…how disrespectful and unprofessional!
They seem to forget it is the people’s forum and the people have the right to speak; that they, the councilors, are there to represent the citizens of Medford…not the mayor!
The council President has the control of the meeting with his gavel and he has the authority to stop this nonsense, but seldom, if at all, does.
Therefore, in an effort to bring real change, respectability and integrity back to the position of the Medford City Council, I have obtained nomination papers to run for City Council.
