Medford Revitalizing City’s Riverfront Open Space 

City Moves Forward with Implementation of the Medford Square Master Plan by Reimagining Waterfront 

 

City to Hold Community Meetings to Gather Input from the Public 

 

(MEDFORD)—The City of Medford is implementing key recommendations from planning efforts in Medford Square to incentivize new development and reimagine the riverfront open space, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced. 

 

Landscape architecture firm Copley Wolff was engaged by the City to generate new design concepts for Clippership Park and DCR-owned riverfront property in Medford Square. The firm built on numerous plans that recommended activating the riverfront in Medford Square to develop initial ideas for transformation of the waterfront area into a space that the Medford community can enjoy, along with initial input from City staff.  

 

“Clippership Park and the Mystic River waterfront have a lot of untapped potential that the City hasn’t been accessing for many years,” said Mayor Lungo-Koehn. “The revitalization of our waterfront will transform and enhance this area while also creating opportunities for the community to work and play in Medford.” 

 

The City plans to offer opportunities for public input on the waterfront project and it is anticipated that Clippership Park improvements will be a multiphase project, occurring as other revitalization efforts in the square are undertaken and funding sources are identified. In the meantime, Copley Wolff has identified several short-term improvements to be considered later this year, including temporary retail pop up and beer garden spaces, as well as bike infrastructure improvements.
