Breanna Lungo Koehn acts nice. Now she must play nice. Here's the deal, with all her shortcomings Lungo-Koehn is the best mayor we've had in the past 60 years, longer than she's been on the planet.
Is she deficient?
Absolutely.
Is she better than the alternative? Well, there's the rub. Falco would have been a disaster, a puppet of McGlynn, as Caraviello certainly is.
And even though McGlynn is fading - his Michael J. McGlynn LLC up on Mammola makes him a ton of money, but do ya think the 20-30 somethings moving into Medford have a clue about the devious, underhanded Godfather of Medford politics?
Well, they don't. Heck, five years later I noticed at the Farmer's Market last week that I was the invisible man, when six years ago I couldn't walk down the street without people talking to me.
Times change, and Caraviello will find that out come election day when his unpopularity will be confirmed by the voters.
Why?
One glaring reason is that the city council is so very dysfunctional, anti-citizen, that it has lost viewership by a staggering amount. Plus, more people are cutting the cord for less viewership, and they aren't going on Zoom.
Allegedly two of Caraviello's events were canceled last week, and in an election cycle, that is a huge red flag.
So unless Breanna pulls a Lady Godiva or robs the Brookline Bank, she is pretty much assured of a third term.
This is just the prelude to my article on how Breanna has to start playing nice. Right now she's an excellent actress, always has been, but it is time to stop competing for an Oscar and for her to roll up her shirt sleeves and actually do the heavy lifting that this journalist does. It is called hard work, and right now Mayor Lungo-Koehn is coasting. What Breanna calls hard work I call a vacation. It is time for her to be the public servant that we all thought she was. Part 2 soon.
