Part of a scathing letter to Rumley and Belson for their deceptive business practices
Back in 2007 TV3 pulled a Paul Donato video censoring Stephanie Muccini-Burke talking about TV3.
It was pure censorship with Rep Donato outraged and saying to the
Transcript: "It’s the public’s right to listen to political speech. It’s
the most protected right. I was just flabbergasted.”
Yesterday,
the Superintendent of Schools, Roy Belson, has refused to play "the
Great Debate" on the advice and opinion of Solicitor Rumley, which,
clearly, came from Mayor McGlynn.
This educational video, something Medford High School students were there to study:
"Several dozen Medford High
School students also attended the debate, including juniors Lucy Heinze
and Camila Hollingsworth, who took notes during the event as part of an
extra-credit assignment for their Honors U.S. History class taught by
Jonathan Streff.
Both students are 16 and
not yet eligible to vote, but they said the debate changed the candidate
they would support in the Nov. 3 election.
“Before we came in, we both said Burke,” Heinze said. “But after this, I would change and say Penta.”
So if the perception from the students is that one candidate did a better job than another, should the Superintendent of schools fracture the First Amendment for political reasons? These people work for us, not the other way around.
Why is our City Solicitor giving a legal opinion to the high school? Don't they have their own lawyers? My understanding is that the solicitor defends the council and the mayor. I have on tape
Mr. Rumley attempting to interrupt my question at the Medford Housing
Authority - until I told him to sit down, which he complied with.
Here's an opinion from Mark Rumley on free speech:
City Solicitor Mark E. Rumley / Medford Daily Mercury on or about Nov. 16, 2008 (quoted from the 2nd Judge Jackson-Thompson hearing a day or so earlier) saying:
“The
one sentiment that I have heard that I take great exception to is that
the city is trying to limit speech,” said Rumley. “The notion the city
would censor or squelch free speech is baseless and as city solicitor I
would find any such effort repugnant.”
Perhaps our esteemed city solicitor never thought people would collect his quotes?
Bottom line is, as a woman said on Facebook: "Well, start calling! City Solicitor Rumley: 781-393-2470 (markrumley@medford.org). Superintendent Belson: 781-393-2442 (rbelson@medford.k12.ma.us). No matter who you support, that debate should be televised!

19:50 in Muccini-Burke fesses up to being part of the Pay-to-Park fiasco! Foot in mouth! Admission of guilt!
