CLEAN UP THE MYSTIC: OCTOBER 22-29

Most of the trash in the ocean comes from rivers--and the trash in rivers comes from our streets! By removing litter from parks and paths, you are reducing the amount of trash that ends up in the water (think: saving ducks, turtles and whales from eating or getting caught in trash.) Want to help? You’re invited to MyRWA’s autumn cleanup challenge taking place October 22nd-29th.  

1. Clean up at priority locations (see maps) or in your own neighborhood.
2. Report back using our simple collection form.
3. Email before and after photos or share on social media using the hashtag #TrashFreeMystic.

MYSTIC LIVE: ANNUAL MEETING ON OCT 29th

Each year we host an Annual Meeting to update our members on our work. This year, you can join us for this quick meeting over Zoom! Hear directly from staff and board members about how COVID-19 and racial reckoning has impacted MyRWA. During the brief keynote, Patrick Herron, MyRWA's Executive Director, will reflect on the past year and share important highlights. Volunteers will be honored and the 2020-2021 Board of Directors will be elected (by members!). Everyone is welcome.

SHARE COMMENTS ON CLIPPERSHIP CONNECTOR DESIGN BY MONDAY OCT 19th!

Last week the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) held a virtual public meeting to present the design of Clippership Connector, including the layout of trail connections at both ends of the project in Medford. When completed, the 0.5-mile-long shared-use trail will extend from Clippership Drive, pass under Interstate 93, and connect to Riverbend Park and the Andrews Middle School. The proposed pathway will create a critical link for the existing Mystic River Greenway! SERVE ON A CONSERVATION COMMISSION

Conservation commissions are the municipal environmental agencies in Massachusetts. They are responsible for protecting the land, water and biological resources of their communities, are are comprised of residents of that community and are all volunteers! Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford are seeking members or alternate members. Interested or curious to learn more about the commissions?
