Investigators allege that their initial investigation shows that “the defendant allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before injuring himself with the knife, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. An autopsy showed that Neiriane Pereira-Da Silva died from her stabbing injuries.
Both husband and wife were immigrants from Brazil, according to a statement from the group Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers. The statement emphasized “the importance of being an active bystander and never ignoring the signs of a violent domestic relationship.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to Neiriane’s family, friends, loved ones, and all those mourning her death. This tragedy is a stark reminder of why we must continue to advocate for women’s rights and safety,” the organization wrote in its statement. “Domestic violence murder is rarely an isolated incident but is often the final act in a pattern of abuse that has escalated over time.”
