(Medford)—The City has released a draft version of its Comprehensive Plan,

document that will guide Medford and help create a

long-range vision for development and policy over the course of decades,

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced.

Creating a Comprehensive Master Plan for Medford is a key step in understanding

the vision and goals for the City, and community input is essential for this process.

Over the past year, this draft has been shaped by Medford residents,

the community Steering Committee, City Staff, and local and regional partners.

Emphasis has been placed on public participation throughout the planning process,

but public input is still needed as adjustments are made to the draft

over the next few months before the Plan is finalized this fall.

The plan engages seven core areas:

  • land use
  • housing
  • economic development
  • history, arts, and cultures
  • open space and recreation
  • public services
  • mobility

These areas will be assessed under the themes of resilience, equity, and health.

The plan will help guide City staff with policy decisions, future investments,

regulatory changes, and ongoing community discussions.

“For too long, critical decisions were made in the City without proper input,

guidance or regard for long-term planning and development,”

Mayor Lungo-Koehn said. “It was clear that for Medford

t o grow and thrive, we needed to undertake a comprehensive

planning process that incorporated the needs of the community

and guided us on a course to a sustainable future.

This has been a collaborative process from the start, and before

we finalize this roadmap, we want the public to offer their input.”

The public can submit feedback, comments, or questions by

clicking here, or by emailing compplan@medford-ma.gov.

About Medford’s Comprehensive Plan:

The City of Medford launched a citywide Comprehensive Master Planning Process on June 9, 2021 that will result in a long-range vision for the City with policy and

guidance for implementation of the Plan over the next ten years.

The Comprehensive Master Planning process is expected to take approximately

12-18 months and the resulting Plan will provide a basis for decision-making

about climate adaptation and mitigation practices, land use

planning and redevelopment, budget preparation and

capital improvement planning for public facilities and services.
