Breanna Lungo-Koehn for Mayor

Friend --

I wanted to give you an update and key you in to a few highlights now that the City Council has passed the budget by a vote of 5-2.

For the past few months, I have been focused on crafting a fiscally sound, comprehensive budget that moves Medford into the future and out of the dark days of the pandemic. My FY22 $191 million budget delivers a 9 percent increase in funds to our schools, fulfills my promise to bring parking operations in house and makes a substantial investment in our infrastructure and emergency services.

I am proud that my vision for our City and our schools received unanimous support from the school committee and overwhelming support from the City Council.

I ran for mayor on a promise of uniting Medford and bringing integrity and transparency to City Hall. That’s been my priority since I took office and this budget process has been emblematic of that. As a City Councilor I saw what can happen when a Mayor is disengaged from the duties of the office and relies on antiquated systems to govern. That was the status-quo for too long and it has failed you, the taxpayer.

I’m proud to have worked with the Council, crafting the proposed budget and amending it to secure its passage. I can attest to the rarity of having a mayor not only present the budget in detail but also stand in front of the Council and answer questions, discuss policy initiatives, and reach a compromise on shared values. That was an important part of my campaign platform and something I was honored to participate in the past few weeks. (link to meeting budget presentation at 1:43:30 City Council Meeting 6/29/21)

My first budget was focused on keeping the City on sound financial footing in the wake of an unprecedented global catastrophe and because of the decisions we made, we are now a City on the rise, both from an economic and public health standpoint. The FY22 budget reflects this new path forward and builds on my promise to make our City more vibrant and prosperous than ever.

We wouldn’t be where we are without your help, guidance and support.

This is just the beginning.

With gratitude,

Breanna
