Chick-fil-A has a history of discrimination based on race and gender, so it may come as little surprise to readers that the company is under fire once again for its employees' recent harassment of a transgender employee, as NBC News reports. Chick-fil-A seemed to turn a corner in 2019 when the company announced that the Chick-fil-A Foundation would no longer be donating to organizations with a history of anti-LGBTQ+ ideals, namely the Salvation Army and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, according to Insider. Although this was a step in the right direction, it did not magically rid the restaurant chain of its history of discrimination.
Erin Taylor, a former employee of Chick-fil-A, is suing the company for wrongful termination after experiencing months of harassment in the workplace for being transgender, per NBC News. Taylor began working at a Decatur, Georgia, location of the chain in August of 2021 and said she was quickly met with "sexual passes" and "very vulgar comments." She reported these comments to her supervisor, but the franchise owner, Joe Engert, brushed them off, saying that she should be honored that "someone liked her enough to hit on her."

Fast food chain Chick-fil-A has recently been in the spotlight due to its anti-gay policies, and strong support for anti-gay groups. However, the chain’s position against homosexuality is not the only kind of discrimination that Chick-fil-A has been guilty of. A look at the chain’s history will show any California employment lawyer that Chick-fil-A has a poor record where workplace discrimination is concerned.
A look at the company’s history shows that Chick-fil-A has been sued at least 12 times since 1988 alone based on workplace discrimination and sexual harassment. In one lawsuit that was filed in 2002, a former restaurant manager at the chain, who happens to be a Muslim, sued the chain, alleging that he was fired because he did not participate in a Christian prayer meeting. A group of Black residents in Fayetteville, Georgia, have filed a lawsuit against Trilith—a prominent production studio where Marvel has a contract—and its neighboring town, alleging discrimination, racial profiling, and retaliation. The major film hub and development are the brainchild of Dan Cathy, the billionaire leader of Chick-fil-A.
Located 20 minutes outside Atlanta, Trilith has been lauded as a new model for Hollywood. Its state-of-the-art studios and production vendors are only a golf cart ride away from its new-urbanist community, where those in the industry have access to green space, micro homes, an autonomous grocery store, and a coworking space. The town and studio have marketed themselves as an open, inclusive, diverse community for all types of people, and have capitalized on such a reputation. But Black residents and former workers say they were sold a false promise and that they were treated differently because of the color of their skin, according to a BuzzFeed News investigation by this reporter last month.
