Boston police respond to 2 different knife incidents in schools on Thursday

Weapons incidents in two different schools in Boston Thursday morning drew attention and police response as focus continues on the discussion of what to do about cops in schools.

“This morning, a middle school student was in possession of a knife,” Boston Public Schools’ James F. Condon School principal Carlitta Camillo wrote in a letter to parents on Thursday. “No students or staff were injured, and the knife was immediately confiscated by school staff.”

BPS wrote in the letter that staff “responded quickly and notified BPS Safety Services and Boston Police to provide assistance and take possession of the knife. The student could face disciplinary action in accordance with the BPS Code of Conduct.”

The school also noted that “if necessary,” staff members “will conduct searches as outlined in the Superintendent Circular on students if they are suspected of carrying any items that could threaten the safety and well-being of students and staff.” The principal reiterated that weapons aren’t allowed in schools.
