Malden getting new school superintendent. Why not Medford?
Former Malden High School principal Dana Brown is among the finalists for the position of full-time Superintendent of Malden Public Schools – but that was not the hottest topic at Thursday's special meeting of the School Committee.
Dr. Charles Grandson, the district's interim superintendent since July 2016, was not initially among the finalists, but his name was added to the list after several School Committee members expressed disappointment with his exclusion.
The committee voted, 5-4, to add Grandson as a fifth finalist, amending the report of a 13-member superintendent search committee. Mayor Gary Christenson was among those against the move, saying he wished to respect the search committee process.
