Press release announcing the candidacy of Paul Ruseau for Medford School Committee.
The following announcement was submitted on behalf of Paul Ruseau:
Paul Ruseau announced today that he will be a candidate for Medford School Committee in November 2017.
“I am running for School Committee because I believe we should broaden the educational experiences for our children both in school and in after-school programs,” Ruseau said. “I’m particularly interested in expanding opportunities in computer science. If we want to ensure that our children have the skills to succeed in today’s work world, we have to make Kindergarten-12 computer science education a priority in Medford.”
Ruseau believes he can bring valuable skills and insights to the committee, drawing on his professional experience.
“As a software engineer and development manager, I understand both technical and managerial challenges. Working in healthcare has given me experience in complex problem solving when there are competing demands and priorities while creating solutions that satisfy all stakeholders.”
A longtime Medford resident, Ruseau lives in Hillside with his husband Robert and their two children, Nevaeh and Matthew, both of whom have attended Columbus Elementary School since Kindergarten.
He has been a Girl Scout troop leader, co-leader of the Computer Science club at Columbus Elementary School, a volunteer for PTO events, and has chaperoned many field trips for his children.
Ruseau’s involvement in his children’s school is part of what inspired him to run.
“When I co-led the Computer Science Club at Columbus Elementary I was amazed by the talents and abilities of the children,” he said. “I was also saddened, knowing that there weren’t many opportunities for them to nurture those talents before high school. Many in the club were girls, and computer science has a startlingly low number of girls entering the field. We need to make sure that those girls and all students in Medford have the chance to develop the knowledge and skills they need for successful futures.”
Paul Ruseau earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Keene State College in 1995, and his Master of Science in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University in 2013.
“I’m committed to providing robust educational opportunities for all of our children here in Medford, regardless of their individual needs, socio-economic situations, or family educational attainment.”
