Boston Herald Puts Public Records Request In: Boston School Committee Resignations

When will unethical Paul Ruseau and ultra unethical Adam Knight resign from the Medford School Committee and Medford City Council?

Boston School Committee Chair Alexandra Oliver-Davila and member Lorna Rivera resigned from their positions following alleged text message exchanges that insulted the neighborhood of West Roxbury. Below is a timeline of events:

  • October 21, 2020: The alleged text messages between Oliver-Davila and Rivera were sent during the course of a now-infamous school committee meeting. Also during that meeting, former chairman Michael Loconto was caught on a hot mic seeming to mock Asian names. He resigned the following day.
  • May 27, 2021: The Herald filed a public records request with the city to obtain text message records from school committee members sent during the Oct. 21 meeting.
  • June 3, 2021: Rivera submitted her letter of resignation
  • June 4, 2021: Acting Mayor Kim Janey submitted Rivera’s letter of resignation to the city clerk. No announcement from the school district or city was made.
  • June 6, 2021: Ten days passed since the Herald filed the public records request. According to state law, an official response to a records request must be sent within 10 business days.
  • June 8, 2021: Oliver-Davila submitted her letter of resignation and Janey sent it to the city clerk.
  • June 8, 2021: Twelve days passed since the Herald filed the public records request. A BPS spokesman said, “We calculate 10 business days as June 11, 2021.”
