Help a Neighbor in Need this Winter: Sign Up for Medford’s Snow Shoveling Assistance List
by Jackie PiquesCity is preparing its annual list of available shovelers. Paid and volunteer positions available.
Snow shovelers assist elderly residents, persons with disabilities with clearing sidewalks after winter storms.
The City of Medford is preparing to publish its annual list of local snow shovelers and is seeking community members to add to the list.
Each winter, the City publishes a list of individuals or businesses available to assist residents who are unable to shovel during winter storms. Shovelers can volunteer or be paid for their services (payment is arranged directly between the resident and the shoveler). Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is seeking volunteers who may be willing to provide support for residents in need, including senior citizens, residents who are ill or immune-compromised, or residents with disabilities.
While the City publishes a list of available shovelers, any payment or direct services is arranged directly between residents and the shoveler. The City will provide a suggested price list. If you are a resident in need of assistance with shoveling, you can obtain the updated list at www.medfordma.org, or by calling the Council on Aging at 781-396-6010 or the Mayor’s Office at 781-393-2408.
To apply to be on the Snow Shoveling List, please send your name, contact information, neighborhood(s) you are available to shovel, and a completed CORI form along with a copy of a photo ID. Forms are available at www.medfordma.org/snow-removal, or by calling the City’s Human Resources Office at 781-393-2406 All information and forms can be submitted to Syrah McGivern, at smcgivern@medford-ma.gov. The deadline to submit paperwork is Monday, November 15, 2021.
