Apparently, based on a letter I sent to this newspaper, I
had several letters written in response from those who stated that I “had my
facts wrong”.
I expected nothing less as everyone has a right to their
beliefs and opinions…in spite of the fact that inaccurate and misplaced
historical events were used in an effort to dispel my argument.
However, it appears after last Tuesday’s council meeting on
September 11th, the rebuttals I received in this newspaper were less
than fact based and motivated more by an inability to accept facts.
Fact…I stated that Councilor Falco brought a motion to the
floor to investigate alternative locations for the convenience of voters. So,
tell me, for whose convenience was this vote taken? Certainly not the constituents of 8/2.
How do you explain, better yet, how was the council able to
take a vote on changing the precinct location without doing any investigating
into alternate locations? What criteria were utilized to arrive at an alternate
location for the “convenience” of the voters?
Simple answer; they never
intended to and none!
How dare the city council not take into consideration the
hardship, safety and inconvenience of the voters in 8/2?
Councilor Falco you and the rest of the city council can try
to do damage control on this blunder but the problem for you is the” cat is out
of the bag”. You surreptitiously brought this motion to the floor because you
were pressured by a small group of citizens that evening (8/14/2018), most whom
do not reside in 8/2, but wanted a sign removed from the VFW because it
offended them.
Apparently, the voices of the constituents in 8/2 do not
matter.
With regards to the other points that were made in my
previous letter I would say this to all: if my facts were so wrong why then did
we observe a plethora of apologies, insincere as they were, not only from some
council members, but, from those (replete with histrionics) who unreasonably,
aggressively and repeatedly berated certain citizens with opinions different
than theirs and bullied the council into making a decision that negatively
affects the good people of Ward 8, Precinct 2?
And the question still remains unanswered which was omitted
in my last letter to the editor which was directed to both Councilor Knight and
Councilor Falco and is public record because it was stated and recorded at the
8/14/2018 council meeting…how did you arrive at the conclusion that the
statement “All Lives Matter” is a racist statement? I believe an explanation
should be made publicly as well.
In closing, I would like to extend my praise and thanks to
Chief Leo Sacco and Mrs. Allison MacGilvray for setting the record straight and
fighting back to bring truth to what was an ugly and shameful August night in
the history of the Medford City Council.
