Eastern has not only its Boston headquarters, but a five-floor corporate office in Lynn as well as office space in Saugus not far from Century’s Medford headquarters. Current Century employees can transfer to an office convenient to their commute, Rivers said. The bank has a right to occupy the site being sold to Herb Chambers until the end of April, with the possibility of a 30-day extension.

Eastern corporate employees are largely still working remotely as they have been throughout the pandemic, with no date yet set for a formal reopening of offices, according to Rivers.

The bank has announced plans to close 17 branches as a result of the merger, with nine of them Eastern’s own locations.
