Annual Permit Parking Renewals Available Starting November 18

 

Seniors (65+) can renew free residential parking permits for 2025 beginning on Monday, November 18 in person at Parking Department Office at City Hall

 

All other residents can obtain a permit online beginning November 18 and in person on December 2

 

(MEDFORD) — If your street participates in the Resident Parking Program or if you participate in the Municipal, Business, Realtor or Home Healthcare Worker Parking Programs, it’s time to renew your annual parking permit (valid January 1, 2025-December 31, 2025). Your 2024 parking permit will be expired after December 31, 2024 so renew it before then to avoid getting ticketed once the calendar turns to 2025.

 

Seniors (ages 65+) can renew their parking permits in person beginning on November 18. The City recommends coming early to avoid long lines. All Senior parking permits must be purchased in-person at the Parking Department in City Hall – Room 110. Please bring a valid vehicle registration and driver’s license. The name on the license must match the registration and both documents must have your current Medford address on them.

 

All other resident parking permits will open for renewal online on November 18 and in-person on Monday, December 2. If obtaining a permit in-person, please bring a current valid Massachusetts registration with your Medford address printed by the MA Registry of Motor Vehicle, in the "Garaged Address" if the "Owner-Mailing Address" is different.

 

To alleviate wait times at the Parking Department window, the City is encouraging residents to follow a tiered schedule for coming to City Hall to renew permits based on neighborhood. This is a suggestion and is not mandatory.

• South Medford / Hillside: Week of November 18 & November 25
• Wellington/Glenwood: Week of December 2
• West Medford: Week of December 9
• North Medford (Fulton Heights)/Lawrence Estates/Medford Square area

The Supreme Judicial Court rejected the johns’ latest appeal to keep the proceedings and records at Cambridge District Court under wraps in a decision essentially upholding a clerk magistrate’s ruling in the case.

Thursday’s SJC decision was the alleged sex-buyer’s third legal loss on the issue. Pending further activity at the district court, the identities remain sealed for now. But in accordance with the SJC decision, their hearings in Cambridge District Court will be open to the public.

A clerk at the Cambridge court told the Herald Thursday that those hearings have not been scheduled yet. The hearings will likely be scheduled for late January, or early February, the clerk’s office said.

The full court on Thursday upheld Justice Scott Kafker’s singular February order to deny the johns’ appeal of the Cambridge District Court’s decision to open preliminary hearings to the public, but to still keep the preliminary criminal documents sealed.

The court found that the “the clerk-magistrate acted reasonably and within the proper scope of her discretion” when she decided to grant public access to the hearings since the U.S. Attorney’s office public notice that the defendants were powerful — including “unidentified government officials, corporate executives, and others in positions of power, wealth, and responsibility — raised legitimate public concerns about potential favoritism and bias if such hearings were held behind closed doors, and that these concerns outweighed the interests in continued anonymity for the Does.”

I hope everyone had a Happy Veterans Day weekend.

It has been a week since the election and the passage of Questions 7 and 8.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your review, research, and support for the two questions that will help us fund our schools and a DPW Crew dedicated to our streets and sidewalks.

The passage of Question 7 will also allow us to retain those currently employed in our schools, will allow for a yearly Chromebook refresh, and allow us to maintain our school buildings.

We will be transparent as we proceed with the process, spending, and budgeting.
