Joann Crupi, former office aide of Bernard Madoff, arrives to federal
court in New York on Oct. 8. Crupi and four other former Madoff
employees are on trial for allegedly being a part of his Ponzi scheme,
which swindled thousands of investors out of billions of dollars over
several decades.
The day after the feds busted Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff, in late
2008, investigators found on his desk about 100 signed checks totaling
$175 million, made out to relatives and friends, a witness testified
Tuesday.

But after Madoff was arrested, Perez admitted that Madoff paid him to shut up when he raised concerns about changing account statements, a second witness testified.
"He told him he was uncomfortable doing that and Mr. Madoff told him, 'I'll give you some money. Just do it,'" said Matthew Cohen, a consultant who worked with Schmidt.
