Together, the raises will cost the city an additional $105,795 for fiscal 2014.

Councilors Michael Marks, Robert Penta and Breanna Lungo-Koehn voted against raises for themselves and the mayor.

 

"It’s not that I don’t think we deserve a pay raise. I just don’t think we should accept one — that’s my opinion," Marks said. "It’s a symbolic gesture, but it means a lot that we’re willing to forego our pay raise because we know that there are other things that need to be accomplished in our community."

The council president will earn $32,550 after the last raise increment in 2016, and the vice president will make $30,640. The salary for all other councilors will be $29,360.

Rick Caraviello and Adam McGknight-0 voted lockstep with jackass Camuso and donkey Dello Russo.  It was pitiful.  Those gluttonous cretins steal your cash, they don't do public service, they engage in SELF-SERVICE, and Paul Camuso is using your money to put in for the trademark  CSS - Camuso Self-Service Sick sons of bitches to vote themselves money like that in this tough economy.

On Thursday, March 13th, 2014,  New Bedford City Councillors Dan Rebeiro and Naomi Andrews-Carney will officially file a written motion the rescind the 44% pay raise city councilors voted for in 2012.  Here is the exact wording:

WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Rebeiro and Carney, requesting that the City Council, rescind the 44% pay raise, until such time as the Council can review a more suitable adjustment that is more reflective of the City’s current financial standing. (To be Referred to the Committee on Finance.)

Paul Camuso's vote to give himself $2,550.00 more dollars makes Camuso a walking obscenity.

 The "tipping point" in science fiction dramas is the place where the critical moment arrives.  The human race comes together to get beyond the dilemma, or it faces total annihilation.  The threat of total annihilation sometimes pushes the race to extraordinary measures to survive.  That what does not kill you makes you stronger.

   239 missing people means at least a couple of thousand grieving friends and family members.  The impact on immediate family is unspeakable.  Part of life is that we are all touched by death, and how we personally deal with loss is, to some degree, dependent on our own individual constitution and emotional support from sources known and unknown.

Not to suggest that we all jump on a plane and go to Malaysia and help out with the search.  In this new age of the internet there are more useful, and less time-consuming, potentials.  "Time consuming" because some people try to do the right thing, have the best of intentions, and jumping on an airplane to get to ground zero (which, admittedly, is not known to us at this point in time) is not as efficient as simply praying for those in distress half a world away.

      Citizens have an obligation to wake up the sleeping masses. As we have to work daily to improve ourselves, thereby improving our lives, we also have a civic duty, an obligation, to speak up within our city and our town, not comments by lazy aliases on the web, but showing some integrity, going up to the podium stating your name, address, looking the public in the eye, and telling a city councilor why he might not deserve a raise, why an empty storefront needs attention, why a crosswalk somewhere needs to be painted, why the promise of access tv or a sports team needs to be kept, or why two councilors bragging about their charity work - both calling themselves president and vice president - is not appropriate.

A colleague who also speaks out to improve our city called and told me about a lengthy e mail that individual had sent out quoting scripture.  Very coincidental because we didn't check our notes till after the fact.   It was about those parading their "charity" on their sleeves. The last person who flagrantly did that is now up on charges of a false bomb threat.  Real charity at work.  Not.  They brag about what they do for this one, what they do for that one, and they are quick to throw stones at people who roll up their shirtsleeves and do the CIVIC duty that they fail to do.

Pointing out the need for civic duty is a LOT different than bragging about the three dollars you put in the collection box at church.  There's also a problem WITH that collection box in church, but money seems to mean more today than the words of Jesus:

The collection box at church, where everyone can see the donations, the "charity" - is in direct conflict with scripture.  But we see what they did to Jesus for being so bold as to point out the obvious.
______________________________________________________Now, this essay is about surviving tragedy, and noting that tragedies in a big, big world happen just about every second of every day. Why do we have to wait for a "tipping point" like 9/11 to all come together in a spirit of harmony?

Remember the two weeks after 9/11...my God, the CHARITY at work that was sincere, real, and wasn't bragging.  It was tangible, it was so real that you could touch it.  People were opening doors for other people, strangers were talking to other people (and not on Match.com - or for kitties and doggies, not on Scratch.com, the latter being a joke, of course. )

After the tragedy of 9/11 people came together.  It was a real "tipping point."  And the trail was not that long.  Within a month people were back to what they were doing today, one livery driver on the phone nearly running me over at the mall where pedestrians have the right of way (you can HEAR the cheers from Malden to Medford, can't ya?) - people on the highway thinking it is "bumping cars" at the amusement park.

Back in 2000 to about 2002 I wrote book reviews, biographies and other essays for an established company.  biographies and such.  Must have reviewed about 60-80 books in that three year period, a little over 25 a year perhaps.  One autobiography that struck me was Marie Osmond's.  OK, it's obvious, in an autobiography the word "I" is essential, but there's also the notion every good editor knows about wearing out one's welcome with the references to one's self.  The estimate was that Osmond referred to herself about 24 times per page.  It was so self-important that it took away from the good parts of Marie's life, and the regrettable moments of her depression.  If it was therapy, good for her, but don't bore your public with it.  Have a good editor re-read and stop the self-centered attitude that George Harrison identified in his wonderful song from the Let It Be album, "I, Me, Mine" (also the title of his autobiography.)

There's currently an article on the Medford Patch where the writer refers to herself 26 times.  Of course a good psychologist would say that individual probably has MORE low self-image than Marie Osmond and its probably a cry for help.  Therapists, go to this link and maybe you'll have some new business for yourselves (plural):

On Patch this writer was attacked from out of the blue by a board member of a TV station where my show is aired.  Now, in a perfect world, board members understand the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  That anyone on public access has a First Amendment right to talk to the man on the street or an A-list actress or actor.  Board members are there to facilitate programming, not to attack or promote politicians (that would violate the Internal Revenue Code 501c3's have to abide by) and certainly not to abuse those giving good content to the station.

But some individuals have a need to throw rocks at someone they never met and never had a beef with.  Maybe a good shrink would call it unscrupulous, or maybe the good psychiatrist would see why that woman finds a need to put men down frequently in her writings.

The bottom line is this.  People have vanished in Malaysia, tragedies happen every day, and random acts of human kindness do more - especially if done in secret - than throwing rocks at people when they have their own situations to deal with, and then writing nonsense promoting the culprit, herself, as "well behaved."  Well behaved people don't have to brag about it.  They don't have the guilty conscience that the rock thrower, obviously, has.  You see, there's a code of conduct in the military and in life.  If a president of a non-profit tells you not to attack a man, and if you were in the military and ignore the order of your commanding officer in real life, on the 501c3, then you are insubordinate. 

If that which does not kill you makes you stronger, this writer (and apologies for the self-reference) must be Iron Man at this point.

 and the promise of rebirth, renewal, growth and infinite possibilities.

     Last week came the news that two close friends had died.  On Wednesday a tribute was published here on the Patch, then on Thursday the wife of a good friend called to tell me that her husband was gone. They have a special needs son who knows that daddy isn't around, but doesn't know why. 

   A bitter winter should mean an incredible spring.  For as they say, hope springs eternal.  But how do we best commemorate the lives of fallen comrades while keeping our own sanity and learning to live without the people we knew, the people who said kind things about us, the people who were on our side?    A wonderful woman was on the phone with me this week, a stranger, yet we were both quoting the Bible to each other.  Just a business woman from out of state who took the time to chat about life and loss.  She said "sometimes it is about our experience, as much as it is about their passing" (paraphrased.)  Which, of course, is kind of the opposite of the late Jerry Garcia's quote that I have used often when writing about people passing on:
Death only matters to the person that's dying. The rest of us are going to live without that voice.

We lost Jerry in August of 1995, and one wonders if he knew how poignant his quote would become since so many of his colleagues passed on after him, and in quick succession! 

Yet I'm finding that venerable old Jerry's quote is not entirely accurate. The rest of us have to live without more than that voice.  My friend Doug & I had a get together with a mutual friend around Christmas 2012.  My best friend and I had plans the same day this year so I didn't get to see him in 2013.  Now Doug is gone, as well as the fellow whose wife called me on Thursday. These individuals had so much to offer the world, and the world has changed without their presence.  So Mr. Garcia, all due respect, but the impact of those dying is great on those who were close to them.  It MATTERS for the people left behind, it certainly matters.

   I Thank God that I called Doug two weeks ago and that we got to chat. He had fallen and didn't know that he broke two ribs and punctured his lung. He told me that he had hurt his back, but it was worse than he thought. He was unconscious on Saturday, and hospitalized for a week and a half before passing away on the fifth. Meanwhile the other friend's passing was more complicated with the possibility that he was given the wrong medication.  Have not got the full details yet and only know that these two individuals are now gone.

__________________________________________________   I canceled a trip to New York this week, as well as a get together with friends today, Sunday.  It's a time for reflection.  What helps those of us in Medford with this promise of spring is the promise from the Mayor that he will do the right thing.  We can only hope. 

   Those of us who go up to the City Council week after week and professionally state our case might politely ruffle Mr. Camuso's feathers.  That says a lot more about Mr. Camuso than it does about the speakers.  You see, there is responsibility that comes with being a Council president.  Not the responsibility to vote yourself a pay raise, but to listen to the residents and be truthful with them, no matter how much that truth might appear to stand in the way of your political aspirations.     Helping citizens instead of a politician helping himself would go a long way to giving the residents some indication that we matter to elected officials every day, not just on election day.

   Mr. Camuso showed disrespect to the late Pat Fiorello.  He has disrespected Dr. Storella, disrespected me as well as others older - and sometimes wiser - than him.  Note to Mr. Camuso: respect your elders. We may have information that you need.  Glad I could get you up to speed on the Open Meeting Law, yet I wonder how much you've yet to learn taking a position that you, clearly (by virtue of being unaware of the total of the Open Meeting Law) aren't ready for.

   Which brings us to public access.  So on Thursday night seven people looked at a viable space for a new station.  I have submitted a solid, logical proposal on how to best utilize that space in a win/win/win situation.   

   When the now-dissolving corporation read this, they went on the attack.    They just didn't have the decorum to allow citizens to move forward with access without the bad history that was MCC TV3 lurking like a shadow attempting to pounce and sabotage the new situation.

   The rocks that got thrown at me by a small group of heartless and cruel individuals is mind boggling.  For the readers who don't know the back-story, the Mayor receives X amount of funds from the Agreements with Comcast and Verizon.   The non-profit in charge is supposed to do tremendous outreach to the citizens.  A retired judge found that it was an insiders club, a private access station.  Citizens - including over two dozen former board members, ran from the situation because of the bad experience of speaking out.  There was harassment, there was name calling, there was violence perpetrated on the victims.

   Then, after this writer kept the battle alive at the City Council when it looked like it had little support, we gathered our strength and got City Hall to do the right thing.  City Hall pulled the funding.

   I didn't pull the funding.  The other brave souls didn't pull the funding. City Hall pulled the funding.  I worked diligently to help out two elected officials and an employee at City Hall to remove egregious materials aimed at them.  It was a horror show.  It was difficult.  We were dealing with people who were steeped in cruelty and have to hide behind aliases to throw the rocks that you saw thrown at me today.

     The meeting minutes are missing.  The financial records are missing. The citizens who paid a LOT of money to the cable providers want to know why the Mayor hasn't been proactive in getting to the bottom of this. 

     While two of my colleagues in the media are being buried, while I'm working hard for my community, those vindictive individuals can't let up.  They just can't stop their abusive taunts and their bad behavior that got them thrown out of Channel 3 in the first place.  They can't behave like adults. 

     The cold hard winter is a reflection of what dozens and dozens of residents experienced at the cold, cruel hands of TV 3 and their accomplices.    But the promise of Spring is around the corner, and one of the people in a position to say this told me on Thursday night that we will have a new access TV station. 

     I was there.  The former cronies who took a wrecking ball to the station were not there.  You do the simple math, and you'll know why this writer is being cyber bullied by multiple people who - quite clearly - have something to hide. 

     It takes courage to go up to the podium on a Tuesday night. It takes courage to prepare a speech that you know will be dissected by cowards who sit behind a keyboard and call you names, without the courage to look you in the eye, face to face.

   You see  people, EVERYONE knows where I am on Tuesday nights. I invite people to come up and be civil and state their case.  So when someone accuses people of not looking them in the eye, when a person who should adhere to a code of conduct lies to her superiors in her current situation, maliciously attacking a man who is available to talk to the entire community every Tuesday night, then you know what you are dealing with when she writes the filth that this writer had to put up with today.

 
    Julie Kelleher says that bullies write from the darkness and won't look at you.  She's 100% correct, and she's describing herself.  Unlike cowardly Julie, you can find me at 85 George P. Hassett Drive just about every Tuesday night at 7 PM while Julie Jarhead is throwing rocks and the ugliest things imaginable, and pontificating that she has no sins and is as pure as snow. Sounds like the Kool-Aid TV 3 fed us for decades, and it begs the question, if Julie Kelleher wants to be with the old TV3 board, Malden Access TV should give her the permission to leave them and join the old TV3 board.  That appears to be where she wants to be and what she wants to do.   Julie is behind her typewriter attacking a man, doing the opposite of what a marine is supposed to do.  This man is at City Hall every week for any legitimate person to speak to in a civil fashion, something that woman can't comprehend or define: civility.

      It begs the question: why can't they just bow out gracefully and let us build our new station to benefit this city?  Is it because they are so afraid that we will do a better job instantly?  That's certainly part of it.
    I'm working hard for this community, and the community knows it.


     Kicking a dog when he's down is not smart; because every dog has his day.  Spring is around the corner.  I'm not afraid of that charlatan and fraud, Julie Kelleher.  But I am man enough to pray for her.

A Medford bully who said he was "just having fun" as he assaulted women named Breanna, Stephanie and Jeanne, is now up on charges of causing serious public alarm.

One of those women is a veteran.  On the lewd and lascivious TV show a dirty young lady stuck her tongue out and cast sexual aspersions at a former member of our military that individual from the "TV3 crowd" wasn't fit to shine the shoes of.

It is best to remember the suicide of Megan Meier and the possibility that the board member of Malden Access Television could be so offensively egregious as to cause the death of a man or woman because of her cyber-bullying.

A board member of Malden Access TV has aligned with the cyber-bullies of the old TV3 Medford that went down in disgrace.  Now why would a lonely woman in Malden engage in such behavior?  Because she has no friends, her only friend is attacking people constructing a new access TV station.  So - voila - the lonely, bitter woman aligns with angry, vindictive people and...well, Match.com couldn't do a better job of aligning a man hater with other man-haters (some of them born "male" but certainly envious of real men.)

What is the cure?  If the disgraced ex-marine who might think she was "honorably" discharged but who, in fact, is seen as a Timothy McVeigh type pushes any of her victims to death, which is exactly the goal of the creepy woman from Malden, then what will the police do about it?

     As a producer/host who taped more quality shows at TV3 Medford than arguablly any other volunteer producer, one of the few able to make shows without interference (for awhile) from board members, ex board members and staff who thought - wrongly - that they were the "public" in public access, one has to be concerned (while laughing) when a board member from another access TV station says that she made a promise not to talk about TV3 and then claims that the one person who led the fight to clean up TV 3 has "nothing to do with" TV3.  Like that carpetbagger would know!.

     With family roots deep in Medford going back to the 1940s and possibly earlier, it is amazing to me that in 2014 our city is behind-the-times when it comes to access television.   In that regard, that old curmudgeon is right, none of us have ANYTHING to do with the bad things the corrupt board at TV3 exacted on this city.  We volunteer producers, though, have EVERYTHING to do with Channel 3.  We are the new Channel 3.

   The late Senator Barry Goldwater had a part in the censorship, as noted on Wikipedia:

The 1984 Cable Franchise Policy and Communications Act written by SenatorBarry Goldwater, said,

"A franchising authority ... may require as part of a cable operator's proposal for a franchise renewal ... that channel capacity be designated for public, educational, or governmental use." -- 47 USC § 531(a)[12][13](emph. added)

This appeared to be a law which creates new rights, allowing local communities to require PEG channels, however, it in fact had the opposite effect. Since the franchise agreement is a contract between the cable operator and the municipality, the municipality could always stipulate a PEG channel requirement, and the contracts clause of the United States Constitution prevents Congress from interfering. So while the intent may have been to correct the omission which led to the Midwest Video decision, and make PEG mandatory, the result was a law which allowed the municipality to opt-out of PEG requirements, and keep 100% of the Cable television franchise fees for their general fund, while providing no PEG facilities or television channel capacity. Since 1984, many Public-access television centers have closed around the country as more municipalities take the opt-out provision.

By the way, this essay is ABOUT TV3 Medford, and written by me. So when someone throws her unwanted two-cents in she violates an agreement she made to stay neutral it is someone showing that she can't adhere to ANY code of conduct.   The military has a code of conduct.  Bragging about military service and acting in a boorish and mean-spirited way is a slap in the face to the excellent marines who protect us from just that kind of bad behavior.

You see, that's the problem, people.  Hacks who don't produce real access tv, who worm their way into situations only to eat away like a termite at our First Amendment rights to the television platform, are angry, bitter, jealous and obstructionists.

Those of us who are in the fight, the real marines and soldiers of access TV, we can see the frauds for what they are.  Birds of a feather often flock together, so just look at the associates of the bad element to notice their anger, and what we need to protect the public from.

That's why the new station must start with a clean slate.

When I was asked why I allow comments only to delete them, it is to gather evidence for the day when we have a new cable TV station and we can show what the old members of the board of directors engaged in.  All the e mails have been not only saved but distributed to others on the right side of this battle.

We will have a new TV station in Medford, and even a duplicitous woman who came into this Patch site throwing rocks with absolutely no knowledge of the situation or one ounce of compassion, even a self-described troublemaker can't stop us on the road to Freedom.

Others before me have had to put up with the bullying by those who should know better.  The key here is that one of the TV3 "crowd" (who told a judge, under oath, that he wasn't part of that club. For shame!) is now allegedly going to be on trial on August 15.  The others have scattered to the four winds.

What set them off this week?  Clearly the fact that we are moving forward and that they aren't informed on the situation has driven them crazy.   Art Deluca wants to "sue" using an Open Meeting Law rule (gee, once again, Deluca is copying his hetter!  The sincerist form of flattery) yet Arthur Jamoke Deluca doesn't realize it wasn't an open meeting, so no open meeting law applies.

Arthur Deluca's statements about allegedly converting the equipment that isn't his to allegedly pay fines for alleged criminal acitivity Deluca admitted to (thank God the Medford Deluca isn't affiliated with the mob, you read what happened to his namesake for talking too much!) was shocking, not only in the admission but the complete stupidity that compelled him to be so smug, defiant and such a joke in public.

We are bringing a new TV station to Medford, and Arthur Jamoke has already stated what he thinks of P/E/G.  Playing both ends against the middle shows a lack of clarity, poor judgment, and excellent reasons why Deluca needs a straight jacket, not a public access TV show.

A Torrance man allegedly stole $95,000 from the Lawndale Rotary Club while serving as its treasurer for seven years, a detective said Friday. 

Robert Alan Zappelli, 65, allegedly created false bank statements that he showed to Rotary officials to hide the crime, county sheriff's Detective Rod Barton said. 

Zappelli took the money, Barton said, because his printing business was in trouble. "He said he used it to keep his business afloat in tough economics," Barton said.

In a short interview, Zappelli admitted to taking the money because his business was in trouble.

Whatever the truth concerning the victim, investigations  are slowly lighting the shadowy private life of Arthur DeLuca.

DeLuca, 23, an unemployed bricklayer, was found, garroted by wire, in the trunk of his 1957 Cadillac which was parked in a lot in North Tonawanda.

He had been missing since Oct. 8.

Another player said the coach, Kelly Greenberg, treated her so poorly she sought mental health care. And two other players said Greenberg’s emotional abuse ruined their love of the sport.
