Her comments echoed those of Human Rights Commissioner Melissa McIntyre and Rev. Wendy Miller during a video-conference forum on racism June 17 about the city not being welcoming to newcomers, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Councilor Isaac “Zac” Bears, the youngest member of the City Council at 26, feels these sentiments reflect “more people getting involved.”
“The city is getting younger and younger people are getting representation they haven’t had before, but it’s not as simple as young and old,” he said. “People want to stand up for inclusiveness and we’re making an effort to address the problems people have undergone. I won’t say age isn’t a part of that, but a lot of older people are also involved.”
