state trooper involved early on has been dishonorably discharged while being investigated for “improper storage of contraband.

A major interstate gun-running case is potentially tainted after the state trooper involved early on has been dishonorably discharged while being investigated for “improper storage of contraband.”

The “contraband was narcotics,” a state police spokesman told the Herald.

Ex-trooper Matthew Kelley, out of the Milton gang unit, suffered a “medical emergency” in May. He resigned June 28, state police report. That triggered the internal affairs investigation that remains sealed until completed, police added.

Attorney General Maura Healey’s office told the Herald this week they have notified “defense counsel and the court” in the gun-trafficking case of Kelley’s dishonorable discharge. But, it added, “we are moving forward with our case.”   https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/08/06/trooper/?utm_email=B47AA4BF04D535F664F99407F9&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=https%3a%2f%2fwww.bostonherald.com%2f2021%2f08%2f06%2ftrooper%2f&utm_campaign=mass-bostonherald-e-edition&utm_content=e-edition
