Retired Massachusetts State Police Trooper Daren DeJong will see two years of probation for his role in the Troop E overtime scandal and will have to fork over a little more than $14,000 in restitution.

DeJong, 60, of Uxbridge, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Boston by Judge Mark Wolf to two years of probation, with the first six months to be served in home confinement. DeJong was also fined $5,500. and ordered to pay $14,062 in restitution.

DeJong in January 2019 pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds. He is the eighth and final defendant to be sentenced in the State Police Troop E overtime scandal.

Federal guidelines for the charge provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss, according to the Department of Justice.

DeJong made $200,416 in 2016, including $68, 394 in overtime, of which the feds have found $14,062 was fraudulently attributable to shifts that DeJong didn’t even show up to or from which he left early, sometimes by as much as seven hours early — so that’s amount Wolf has ordered him to pay back.
