The calls for federal oversight of the state’s beleaguered transportation system grew louder Sunday, as now two Bay State congressmen said they would support receivership of the MBTA.

“I actually asked the FTA — the Federal Transit Administration — if there was some type of ‘quasi-receivership’ process that they might use to come in,” U.S. Rep Stephen Lynch said.

Lynch was appearing on WCVB’s On The Record with host Ed Harding and political reporter Sharman Sacchetti.

“You are advocating for receivership,” Sacchetti told Lynch.

“Absolutely,” the Boston congressman said. “There are 900 vacancies on the MBTA and we can’t get skilled electricians and ironworkers and bricklayers and other tradespeople on the property. There is no way. This goes right down to the trackmen, laborers and conductors. We had to scale back service because they didn’t keep a ready reserve of dispatchers.”
