In a reversal from last week, Medford’s director
of information services informed city officials he would not be
resigning as requested by the administration Thursday.
The Teamsters Local 25 already represents four unions in Medford, two work with the city’s Department of Public Works, while two other units work for the school district.
In its letter to Ferretti, the city writes it completed a survey of its information technology in 2021, and finding several weaknesses, directed Ferretti to prepare a plan to replace outdated desktops with laptops. The city cites as one of its five points in discussing the reasons for termination “considerable difficulty working with (yourself)."
A letter dated Jan. 7 detailing the reasons for his release was delivered to Michael Ferretti and stated a lack of response to requests and tasks set by the city administration — including a failure to prepare a plan to replace outdated technology, lack of completion of a grant request and having been seen smoking within 25 feet of City Hall, a prohibited activity — as reasons for his termination.
