2021 Halloween Activities Planned in Medford

by Jackie Piques

“Pumpkin Float” returning to Wright’s Pond for 2021, in addition to other planned activities throughout the city.

The City of Medford is gearing up for Halloween fun!

In partnership with the Medford Recreation Department and the Medford Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced options for residents to safely celebrate Halloween. Residents of all ages are invited to enjoy Halloween with us in any or all of the following ways:

Pumpkin & Lantern Float at Wright’s Pond, Saturday, October 30th, 6:30 – 9pm
Back by popular demand, the Medford Recreation Department and the Mayor’s Office are hosting the 2nd annual Pumpkin Float on Saturday, October 30th from 6:30 to 9pm at Wright’s Pond. The event will feature live music by Medford’s own Matt Heaton, a craft table sponsored by the Medford Family Network, a pop-up beer garden by Medford Brewing Company, and a walk through the Pond area to view jack-o-lanterns! Costumes are encouraged.

Residents can join drop off carved pumpkin(s) and/or a decorated lantern(s) to Wright’s Pond for an illuminated Halloween display event. You can drop off pumpkins on Wednesday, October 28th or Thursday, October 29th between 3:00 and 6pm.

Battery-operated tea lights will be provided for pumpkins and lanterns. To ensure the pumpkin floats, please use small “sugar” or “pie” pumpkins that are between 6 and 8 inches. Larger pumpkins will be placed along the path, and residents will be invited to walk along a one-way path during designated times for viewing.

Medford Chamber of Commerce Presents “Business Trick or Treat” in the Squares, Friday, October 29th, 3 - 5pm
Several businesses in Medford Square, Haines Square, West Medford, and South Medford will offer an afternoon of family-friendly Trick-or-Treating. This event is sponsored and managed by the Medford Chamber of Commerce.

Trick-or-Treat! Sunday, October 31st
Happy Halloween! Please enjoy a safe and healthy Trick-or-Treat experience throughout the City. We remind all drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists to obey the rules of the road and drive/walk/cycle carefully on Halloween, especially after dark. Pedestrians and those wearing costumes are encouraged to wear reflective clothing if possible, and always cross at crosswalks and signals.

If you have questions about the City’s Halloween activities, you can contact Lisa Colaianni, Director of Community Affairs, at LColaianni@medford-ma.gov or 781-393-2405. We hope you will celebrate the season with us!
